In February 2025, Netflix dropped plans to add six previously announced games to Netflix Games. The decision applied to the planned additions to its mobile service—not to the games’ availability everywhere. Netflix said the change was part of adjusting its portfolio as it learned what members like.
Which six games did Netflix cancel?
Netflix confirmed it would not add these six titles to its iOS and Android games service:

- Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game
- Don’t Starve Together
- Lab Rat
- Rotwood
Engadget reported the decision on February 4, 2025, citing confirmation from Netflix. What’s on Netflix had reported the change on January 28.
Why did Netflix remove these games from its plans?
A Netflix spokesperson told Engadget the cancellations were “just a natural part of adjusting our portfolio as we learn more about what our members like.” The spokesperson was not named. Netflix did not provide measurements of member preferences, individual game performance, or the business impact of the decision in the report, so those should not be inferred from the explanation.

Was Tales of the Shire cancelled?
No. Netflix dropped its planned addition, but that did not cancel the game elsewhere. Engadget reported that Tales of the Shire would still arrive on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo UK lists a Nintendo Switch game-card version with a July 29, 2025 release date. That confirms the format and date on Nintendo’s UK product page, not current stock in every region.
Can you still play Don’t Starve Together elsewhere?
Yes. Klei’s support page, updated July 21, 2026, lists the game for Steam on PC, Mac, and Linux; PlayStation 4 and 5; Nintendo Switch; Xbox One; iOS; and Android. The listing establishes supported platforms, not current retail availability in a particular country or storefront.

What does this mean for Netflix Games?
The six cancellations were a portfolio decision about planned additions, not an announcement that Netflix was ending its games service. In a catalogue page dated September 9, 2026, Netflix Tudum said members had access to more than 120 exclusive mobile games, with no ads, extra fees, or in-app purchases, downloadable through app stores for Android and Apple mobile devices. That is Netflix’s own count and description as of that date; it is separate from the 2025 decision about these six titles.
