The four Newsboys members still in the band responded on June 5, 2025, saying they were devastated by reporting about former singer Michael Tait, supported people who had shared accounts, and did not condone sexual assault. They also said they felt deceived by Tait, who they said had told the band and its management when he left in January that he had been living a double life.
What Newsboys said in its June 5 statement
Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, and Adam Agee issued a joint statement after The Roys Report published its investigation. The statement expressed support for those who had shared accounts and condemned sexual assault. As reproduced by The Christian Beat and CBN News, the band said: “First and foremost, our hearts are with the victims who have bravely shared their stories.” It added, “We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault.”
The members described their own reaction as “horrified, heartbroken, and angry” and said they felt deceived “for the last fifteen years.” That wording conveys the band’s response; it does not establish what any individual member knew at a particular time.
What the band said about Tait’s departure
Newsboys said Tait left in January 2025 and told the band and management at the time that he had been living a double life. The account comes from the band’s statement, as reported by The Christian Beat and CBN News.

What was alleged, and how Tait responded
In an investigation published June 13, 2025, The Guardian reported allegations of sexual assault by three men and inappropriate behavior by four others. The men were reported to have been between 13 and 29 at the time of their alleged experiences. These are allegations and reported accounts, not adjudicated findings.
Tait issued a public response on June 10. The Guardian quoted him saying: “Recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse and sexual activity are sadly, largely true.” Christianity Today also reported on his response: Tait acknowledged drug and alcohol abuse and touching men in an unwanted sensual way. He disputed some details but said he did not dispute the substance of the accusations. His statement was a response to the reporting, not a legal determination.

What later reporting said about prior rumors
Questions about what people around the band may have known surfaced in later coverage. In a June 25, 2025 report, The Guardian quoted Adam Agee saying the band had heard rumors, asked Tait about them, and received emphatic denials. This later account is distinct from the band’s statement about what Tait told members and management when he left in January. Neither account, by itself, establishes what each Newsboys member knew or when.
