Several well-known actors, musicians and comedians have publicly expressed support for Liverpool FC, including Damian Lewis, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Lana Del Rey and Millie Bobby Brown. The clearest examples come from interviews published by the club, so their dates matter: they document what each person said at that time, not necessarily how they follow the team today.
Is there a definitive ranking of Liverpool’s celebrity fans?
No. Liverpool FC published a “Top 10 famous LFC fans” roundup on 4 July 2011, but it was an editorial selection from that period, not an objective or current ranking of fame. The useful question is which celebrities have made clear, attributable statements about supporting the club.
The examples below are strongest where the person spoke directly to Liverpool FC. Older comments are dated, and a qualified remark is not treated as an unequivocal declaration of lifelong support.
Which celebrities have directly said they support Liverpool?
Damian Lewis
In a Liverpool FC interview published on 4 March 2024, actor Damian Lewis described a childhood connection to the club and long-standing support. He recalled, “They had all my favourite players when I was seven years old.” His father supported Arsenal but was more interested in rugby, Lewis said, so he was free to choose Liverpool. The interview is the most recent direct first-person evidence among these examples. Read the interview with Damian Lewis.

Sanjeev Bhaskar
Actor and comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar said in a Liverpool FC interview published on 3 May 2023 that he chose Liverpool as a child, despite growing up among Chelsea-supporting classmates in west London. His explanation combined the team’s red kit with his love of the Beatles: “I knew that Liverpool played in red and I always loved The Beatles and I knew they were from Liverpool, so I said Liverpool.” The club’s headline describes him as having supported Liverpool for 53 years; that duration is his recollection as reported at the time, not an independently verified count. Lana Del Rey
Singer Lana Del Rey spoke to Liverpool FC at Anfield after Liverpool played Tottenham. In the interview published on 10 March 2013, she said: “Yes! Liverpool are my team but I also support Celtic in Scotland, who are my boyfriend Barrie’s team.” Her statement is explicit, while also making clear that her allegiance was not exclusive to Liverpool. Millie Bobby Brown
In a Liverpool FC interview published on 26 September 2016, actor Millie Bobby Brown said her father gave her a Liverpool kit when she was younger and that her brother was a devoted fan. She added: “Now I watch them and I love Liverpool. I watch the games.” The interview also described her sometimes watching matches at 4 a.m. while in America; that is an anecdote from 2016, not evidence of her current viewing schedule. What did Brad Pitt say about Liverpool?
A Liverpool FC report published on 25 November 2011 quoted actor Brad Pitt answering a question about his favourite football team: “I have some friends who are very close to Liverpool, so if I went another way I might be disowned.” The conditional wording links him to Liverpool but is less definitive than a direct statement that he is a lifelong supporter. The same club report described Angelina Jolie as a well-known Kopite and said her connection to Liverpool grew from filming in North Wales while her adopted son Maddox received treatment at Alder Hey Hospital. It also described Maddox as a huge Liverpool fan. These are claims reported by the club in 2011. Read Liverpool FC’s 2011 report.

How to read claims about famous fans
- Direct statement: A celebrity speaking about their support is stronger evidence than a label applied by someone else.
- Date: A past interview establishes what the person said then. It does not, by itself, confirm current habits or allegiance.
- Type of support: Some statements describe long-standing support, others support at the time of the interview, dual-club allegiance or a more qualified association.
That distinction is why Liverpool’s 2011 “Top 10” list is best treated as a historical roundup, while the later interviews provide dated first-person accounts. The list’s title should not be mistaken for a measured ranking. See the 2011 roundup.
