Actor Tom Hanks and former prime minister David Cameron are also named by the league; singer Ozzy Osbourne appears in an older report with a more tentative qualification.
Who are the famous Aston Villa fans?
These are reported supporters, not the results of a measured popularity poll. The Premier League’s 16 March 2026 feature names Prince William, Tom Hanks and David Cameron among Villa’s famous fans, with William as its lead example. Its feature is titled “Who is each Premier League club’s most famous fan?”
Prince William
William is the strongest answer: he has described his connection to Villa himself and has been seen attending matches. BBC Sport calls him a lifelong supporter. The Associated Press documented him watching Villa’s Champions League away match against Paris Saint-Germain on 9 April 2025 with his son Prince George.
Tom Hanks
The Premier League also lists actor Tom Hanks as a Villa supporter. An earlier ITV News Central list says he chose the club because he liked its name, attributing that explanation to Mirror reporting; it does not provide a direct quotation from Hanks.

David Cameron
Former UK prime minister David Cameron is another name in the Premier League overview. His football allegiance has prompted confusion: ITV notes that he once said “West Ham” in a speech and later blamed “brain fade.” That anecdote is a reason to report his Villa support with care, rather than treat every public remark as definitive.
Ozzy Osbourne
ITV News Central’s 2016 article includes singer Ozzy Osbourne and two bandmates, but says they “are also said to be Villa fans.” That wording is less certain than the Premier League’s current identification of William, Hanks and Cameron, so Osbourne is best described as a reported Villa supporter.

Why does Prince William support Aston Villa?
William has explained his choice as a personal preference for an unpredictable football journey. BBC Sport reports that, while his school friends followed Manchester United or Chelsea, he wanted a club that might offer more emotional ups and downs. He put it this way: “I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
He has also connected his support to the atmosphere around the club. Recalling a match at Bolton in 2000, he said he sat with Villa supporters from Birmingham and felt at home among them. The Premier League’s 16 March 2026 feature quotes him: “I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”

How certain is the “most famous fan” label?
“Most famous” is an editorial description, not an objective ranking. The Premier League gives William that lead billing, while BBC Sport’s account of his lifelong support and public match attendance make him the best-supported answer. The available sources do not establish a survey, score or definitive ranking comparing celebrities’ fame or level of fandom.
For the underlying accounts, see BBC Sport’s explanation of William’s Villa support, the Associated Press report from Villa’s 2025 Paris match, and ITV News Central’s 2016 list of Midlands football fans.
