Morgan Wallen made the statement “I’m not proud of my behavior” after his April 7, 2024, arrest in Nashville. It was not a statement about a new 2026 arrest. The case later moved from the original arrest-stage charges to a conditional guilty plea to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts in December 2024.
What Wallen said after his arrest
In a statement reproduced by WSMV on April 19, 2024, Wallen wrote: “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”

The Associated Press also reproduced another line from the statement: “I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe.” These are Wallen’s words as reported by the outlets, not statements from a court or police official. The AP’s April 20, 2024 report covered the statement and arrest.
What led to the arrest
Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville on April 7, 2024, after an alleged incident at Chief’s, a rooftop bar on Broadway. The AP, reporting details from the arrest affidavit, said a chair was thrown from the roof and landed about three feet from officers. Those are allegations described in police reporting, not facts to present as independently established here.
#1 Best Overall
At the arrest stage, Wallen faced three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, according to the AP’s contemporaneous report. Those initial charges were not the same as the eventual plea.
How the case changed
| Stage | Reported legal status |
|---|---|
| April 2024 arrest | Three felony reckless-endangerment counts and one misdemeanor disorderly-conduct count, as reported by the AP. |
| December 2024 plea | Conditional guilty plea to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts, as reported by the AP and ABC News. |
In December 2024, Wallen conditionally pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts. The AP reported that the sentence was seven days in a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation. ABC News reported, citing his attorney Worrick Robinson IV, that the plea was entered under Tennessee’s Diversion Statute and did not result in a conviction at that time.

In an October 1, 2025 update, the AP reported that the charges would be eligible for dismissal and expungement after probation, according to the attorney. The reporting cited here does not establish whether dismissal or expungement later occurred.

In October 2025, the AP reported that body-camera and cruiser-camera video released by Metro Nashville Police showed Wallen denying to police that he had thrown the chair. The footage was released in response to an AP public-records request. It is a later development in the public record; it should not be confused with Wallen’s April 2024 statement. The AP’s October 1, 2025 report covered the video and case status.
