The franchise is not simply shutting down again: the official site says a new Moshi Monsters game is coming to PC and mobile, while a separate project called Moshi Online says it remains free to play and maintained by its team.
What happened to the original Moshi Monsters game?
Mind Candy’s official FAQ says the original online game closed in 2019. It does not give the exact closure day in the available text. The FAQ states: “when the original game closed in 2019, all account data was lost.” Mind Candy’s FAQ is the source for both the closure year and the account-data statement.
That means an old account should not be treated as recoverable or transferable. The FAQ says backers could secure an old username for the new game, but it does not establish that this option is still available; check the current FAQ and terms before relying on it.
Is Moshi Monsters shutting down now?
The current official homepage describes the franchise as “coming soon to PC & Mobile.” That is a planned return, not evidence that the 2019 service is reopening in its original form. See the official Moshi Monsters homepage.

The official FAQ has described a target of May 2027 for the full public release and early access for backers from July 2026. Those are plans, not a guarantee, and the July 2026 date has passed. The FAQ’s timing may not reflect later developments, so check it for any revised schedule before making plans.
What is the difference between the new game and Moshi Online?

Moshi Online’s announcement says Mind Candy will support costs and ongoing development while the Moshi Online team maintains the project. The announcement describes it as part of the Moshi world, but it does not make it the same service as the planned official PC and mobile relaunch. Can you still play Moshi Online?
Moshi Online has its own desktop clients, separate from the planned PC/mobile relaunch. Its download page lists Windows, macOS, and Linux versions and explains that the project moved to a desktop application because browser Flash is no longer supported. Check the Moshi Online download page for current downloads and system details.
The project’s September 13, 2026 announcement says it will remain free to play and maintained by its team. That statement applies to Moshi Online, not automatically to the new official game.

When is the new Moshi Monsters game coming out?
Mind Candy’s FAQ gives May 2027 as the target for a full public release on PC and mobile. It also described early access for backers from July 2026. Because that early-access date is now past and the FAQ may not include subsequent changes, the current release status is not established by those dates alone. Check the FAQ for the latest information.
Mind Candy’s Kickstarter campaign for the PC/mobile role-playing game ran from August 18 to September 17, 2025. Its campaign page reports £153,891 pledged against a £50,000 goal and 2,840 backers; these are campaign-page totals, not independent measures of demand or proof of a release date.
