Molly Sims recalled that early in her modeling career, people in the industry criticized her for being “too fat, too big, too blonde, too dark” and said her nose was crooked. She described the experience as stressful and said the pressure affected her relationship with food. These are Sims’s recollections of her own career, not evidence that every agency or employer applied the same standard.
What Molly Sims said about the criticism
In a preview of her April 7, 2024 appearance on Curtis Stone’s podcast Getting Grilled with Curtis Stone, Sims recalled that photographers repeatedly directed her to change her position. After about two weeks of modeling, she asked whether something was wrong. As she recounted it, people told her: “Your nose is crooked. You’re not symmetrical.” She said the comments continued: “Too fat, too big, too blonde, too dark.” PEOPLE published the recollection in an April 5, 2024 report.
The phrase “too dark” is part of the fuller list Sims gave; it is not included in the article’s headline. Sims characterized the period as stressful.
How she connected modeling pressure with food
Sims said the criticism contributed to a difficult relationship with food. Fox News reported on April 6, 2024, that she described moving from a family life in which food and cooking were central to restricting her eating amid modeling pressure. She also said her parents supported her.

This is Sims’s account of her experience. The reporting does not establish a clinical diagnosis or show that the same experience applied to other models. Her recollection should not be read as advice to restrict food.
The fashion era Sims recalled
Sims placed her entry into modeling in the period she associated with Kate Moss and “heroin chic,” which she described as favoring a very thin, androgynous look. She said she initially struggled to find work, then began booking jobs as the favored look shifted. That is her account of her career and of the period, rather than a quantified history of the fashion industry as a whole.

What Sims has said about confidence and her children
In a May 2024 interview with Us Weekly, Sims discussed body positivity, confidence, and mental-health conversations with her children. She said she tries to model for them what she wants them to see and hear. That later perspective offers a personal contrast to the appearance judgments she recalled receiving early in her career.
