Morgan Freeman reportedly told a 2020 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) ScreenFest Q&A that he would love to work with director Ridley Scott. He joked, “I’d cut off one of my fingers if he required it.” The remark expressed enthusiasm; it was not a literal threat or an announcement of a film project.
What did Morgan Freeman say about Ridley Scott?
In its account of the 2020 Q&A, Looper reported Freeman saying: “I’d cut off one of my fingers if he required it.” He also reportedly told Scott: “I’m a big, big, big fan, if ever there was anything you think you might want me to try and do, just whistle.”
Those quotations are attributed to Freeman through Looper’s report; the available account does not establish them against an original transcript or recording. A separate BANG Showbiz story republished by Castanet in February 2022 repeated the finger remark, but that later publication date is not when the Q&A took place.
Was Freeman literally desperate to work with Scott?
“Desperate” is a headline-style paraphrase, not the wording of the quoted remark. The finger line is an emphatic joke, and Freeman’s reported invitation to Scott makes clear that he was expressing admiration and interest in being considered for a role.

Have Morgan Freeman and Ridley Scott made a film together?
The cited account says Freeman had spoken with Scott and had been in his company. It does not report that they made a film together, that Scott offered Freeman a role, or that a project was in development. The remarks describe a wish to collaborate, not a confirmed collaboration.
Why is Scott described as the “Alien” director?
Scott directed Alien (1979), as noted in this Los Angeles Times account. The description identifies one of his best-known films; Freeman’s reported comments do not indicate that any possible role would be in the Alien franchise.
