On September 7, 2025, the Moon was full, and a total lunar eclipse crossed the night side of Earth. The eclipse reached greatest extent at 18:12 UTC, but whether it was visible depended on your location and whether the Moon was above the horizon.
What phase was the Moon on September 7, 2025?
It was a Full Moon. Phasesmoon.com listed the Moon as 99.95% illuminated for that date; that is the page’s estimate, not a universal measurement. See the date-specific phase listing.
A full Moon appears as a fully illuminated lunar disk. On this date, the view also coincided with a total lunar eclipse, during which Earth’s shadow passed across the Moon.
What happened during the lunar eclipse?
Totality began at 17:31 UTC and ended at 18:52 UTC, lasting 1 hour and 21 minutes. Greatest eclipse was at 18:12 UTC, near 6°S, 87°E. The eclipse timeline and visibility account places central and south Asia and the Indian Ocean among the best-positioned regions near greatest eclipse.

During totality, the Moon can appear copper-red as sunlight is filtered through Earth’s atmosphere. The exact shade varies with atmospheric conditions, including dust and clouds, so a particular color was not guaranteed.
Could you see it from where you were?
Visibility was location-dependent. The eclipse was visible from parts of Earth’s night side, but elsewhere it took place while the Moon was below the horizon. Even within regions with favorable circumstances, local horizon and timing mattered.

Moonrise and moonset are local times, not one worldwide schedule. For example, the Honolulu date page gives local information; its times should not be applied to other locations. A precise answer for a particular town requires that town and its timezone.
