Who is under Ghostface’s mask in Mortal Kombat 1?
In a PlayStation Blog interview, NetherRealm says its “canon” Ghostface for unmasked moments is Billy Loomis, one of the killers from the original Scream film. The key qualifier is “for those moments”: the developers chose Billy as the game’s canonical face when Ghostface is unmasked. The statement does not redefine the broader franchise identity.

Why does the game involve more than one Ghostface?
The character draws on the original Scream film’s multiple-killer premise. In an Xbox Wire interview, NetherRealm describes teamwork as central to its adaptation. That idea appears in Ghostface’s combat design as well as his backstory.
- Always Outnumbered: Ghostface calls another Ghostface to help in a fight.
- Backstage Pass: He briefly leaves the screen and reappears on either side.
Principal Designer Paulo Garcia also described the character as especially throw-focused, with a brawler or grappler feel. These choices translate the killers’ teamwork into a fighting-game moveset; they do not establish a second canonical unmasked identity.

How do you get Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1?
Ghostface is a guest character in Kombat Pack 2. WB Games Support lists that pack as included through Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion, Bundle, or Kollection; it is not sold as a standalone character bundle. The support page also lists Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, T-1000, Conan the Barbarian, and Kameo character Madam Bo among Kombat Pack 2’s contents.
Warner Bros. Games’ May 14, 2025 announcement says Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition includes the base game, the Khaos Reigns story expansion, Kombat Pack, and Kombat Pack 2, including Ghostface. Those are the announced edition contents, not a guarantee of current price or availability. Check the listing for your platform and confirm its contents before buying.

NetherRealm’s answer is specific: Billy Loomis is the canonical Ghostface in the game’s unmasked moments. The game’s use of additional Ghostface help reflects the multiple-killer concept, not a claim that the franchise’s Ghostface identity belongs to Billy alone. Warner Bros. Games said in its 2025 Definitive Edition announcement that the Mortal Kombat franchise had surpassed 100 million game units worldwide; that figure is franchise-wide, not sales for Mortal Kombat 1 or its Ghostface DLC.
