The crisis begins after Mob learns that Tsubomi is moving. The finale recap describes ???% as a mirror of Mob’s suppressed side, which takes control as his psychic power surges. Reigen, with Serizawa’s help, reaches Mob and admits his own lies. His honesty gives Mob a way to confront rather than reject the parts of himself he had kept separate.
Mob regains control and meets Tsubomi to confess his feelings. She turns him down gently. He returns to Reigen in tears, with Reigen there to support him. The resolution is not a romantic victory: it is Mob being able to feel disappointment without hiding or disowning what he feels.

What does ???% mean?
The finale’s official synopsis describes two aspects within Mob’s consciousness becoming one; the recap identifies the opposing force as the suppressed ???% side. Read them together, and ???% represents the psychic power and feelings Mob has treated as separate from the ordinary self he wants other people to see.
This is an interpretation of the events, not a definitive explanation attributed to creator ONE. In that reading, the crisis ends not because Mob destroys an unwanted part of himself, but because he accepts it as part of who he is. Reigen’s confession is crucial: rather than posing as an infallible mentor, he meets Mob honestly and urges him to accept both his ordinary and esper selves.
Rank #2
Why does Reigen tell Mob the truth?
Reigen’s admission changes the relationship at the moment Mob most needs a genuine connection. His earlier dishonesty has helped sustain the image of a mentor with answers, but here he stops relying on that role. By acknowledging his own faults, Reigen makes room for Mob to face his own divided feelings without being judged or abandoned.
The scene also gives Reigen a moment of vulnerability rather than making him simply the person who rescues Mob. The official synopsis confirms that Reigen’s disclosure is central to the finale; the meaning of that choice is a thematic reading of the scene, not a creator-confirmed explanation.
Does Mob end up with Tsubomi?
No. Mob tells Tsubomi how he feels, and she kindly rejects him. The confession still matters: Mob expresses what he wants, hears an answer he did not hope for, and returns to Reigen able to cry instead of suppressing the hurt. The ending treats emotional growth as the ability to face a real response, not as a guarantee that feelings will be returned.
What happens after the final crisis?
The epilogue jumps six months ahead. Mob is vice president of the Body Improvement Club, and Tome is working with Reigen. The group surprises Reigen with a birthday party, ending the anime on an everyday act of friendship rather than another psychic confrontation.
That closing celebration offers a forward-looking frame: the crisis is over, but the characters’ relationships and ordinary lives continue. The official episode title, “Confession ~The Future~,” complements that sense of moving ahead.
How does the ending resolve Mob’s character arc?
Mob has spent much of the story trying to manage his emotions and psychic abilities without letting either define him. The finale brings those previously separated parts together, then tests that acceptance in a situation he cannot control: Tsubomi does not return his feelings. He can still acknowledge his sadness and seek comfort.

Reigen’s honesty and Tsubomi’s rejection serve different parts of that resolution. Reigen helps Mob accept the whole of himself; Tsubomi’s answer shows that doing so does not mean getting everything he wants. The finale’s emotional payoff is Mob’s greater capacity to be honest with himself and other people.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ending establishes—and what it leaves to interpretation
- Established by the official finale synopsis: Reigen reaches Mob, tells him a truth, and two aspects of Mob’s consciousness become one.
- Detailed in the finale recap: the conflict involves ???%, Mob’s confession to Tsubomi, her rejection, and the six-month-later birthday gathering.
- Interpretation: ???% can be read as a side of Mob he had disowned, and the finale’s acceptance of it as a step toward emotional integration. This reading should not be treated as a statement of creator intent.
Staff and cast remarks about finishing the anime offer context, not a definitive key to its symbolism. At a 2023 graduation event, Mob’s voice actor Setsuo Ito said Mob would live on and reflected that everyone has their own life, with oneself as the main character. That comment speaks to the work’s continuing significance for him, rather than explaining what ???% means.
Anime and manga: what can be compared
The anime finale and ONE’s completed manga are two versions of the story. Shogakukan announced the concluding manga volume, but the sources cited here do not establish specific scene-by-scene differences in the ending. Readers comparing them can look at how each version stages the ???% conflict, paces Mob’s confession, handles the epilogue, and uses its medium to deliver emotion. Those are useful comparison points, not claims that one version changes a particular event.
Shogakukan’s announcement of the concluding volume confirms the manga’s completion. It does not establish current retailer stock or availability in a particular edition or region.
