Reports say Russian model Alisa Kazmina developed severe nasal tissue necrosis in 2020 and needed emergency surgery, followed by extensive facial reconstruction. But the “flesh-eating disease” wording does not establish that she had necrotizing fasciitis or another confirmed bacterial infection.
What happened to Alisa Kazmina’s nose?
In a report published on 15 August 2024, PerthNow said Kazmina noticed her nose sagging in 2020. She first sought help from a cosmetic specialist, who reportedly treated the problem as an infection. The outlet said other doctors diagnosed an autoimmune disease by May 2020, and that an emergency operation became necessary after necrosis had advanced to her sphenoid sinuses, near the brain. PerthNow quoted Kazmina describing the urgency: “It was an emergency, the clock was ticking. The destruction was up to the sphenoid sinuses, almost to the brain.” It also attributed to her the words: “My beautiful face was mutilated by the disease,” PerthNow reported.
Does “flesh-eating disease” mean she had necrotizing fasciitis?
No such diagnosis is established by the reporting located. Necrosis means tissue death; it describes what happened to tissue, not the cause. It can result from different conditions and does not, by itself, prove a bacterial infection. The National Cancer Institute defines necrosis as the death of body tissue.

How was Kazmina’s face reconstructed?
PerthNow reported that surgeons used tissue from Kazmina’s forehead and cartilage from her ears and ribs to rebuild her face. The report quoted reconstructive surgery specialist Denis Agapov: “The most challenging part of was restoring the soft tissue covering, which was almost completely absent,” PerthNow’s account also said further operations were expected at the time. These are reports about one person’s case, not general medical statistics. A February 2025 account by Vechernyaya Moskva recounted Kazmina’s statements about autoimmune illness and necrosis and said she denied rumors that she had undergone rhinoplasty. The sources available through the 2025 reporting do not establish whether Kazmina’s reconstruction was completed or provide a verified health update as of October 2026. The later operation count appears in a search-result excerpt rather than a retrievable full article, so it should be attributed to Vokrug TV rather than treated as a confirmed final tally.
