Mitti: Ek Nayi Pehchaan is most convincing when it refuses to treat a return to the land as a ready-made solution. Its eight-episode story takes farm debt, weather, pests and a city-bred newcomer’s inexperience seriously—then tests that realism with a much tidier, technology-led path to success. Whether that payoff works is the central question in this Hindi drama.
What is Mitti: Ek Nayi Pehchaan about?
Released on July 10, 2025, Mitti: Ek Nayi Pehchaan follows Raghav Sharma (Ishwak Singh), a Mumbai advertising creative who returns to Dol Chhapra after his grandfather Sudarshan dies. Raghav has spent his career selling an urban idea of “Bharat,” but he has little practical farming experience. At home, he inherits a farm burdened by debt and tries to carry forward his grandfather’s ambitions, while also attempting to restore the family’s standing.
The premise gives the series a useful source of conflict: Raghav’s confidence in ideas and presentation meets the patience and practical knowledge that cultivation demands. Locals are skeptical, a loan recovery agent presses the family, and the farm’s problems do not wait for Raghav to catch up. The story also follows the strain his decision puts on relationships in the city.
Does the series show the realities of farming?
Its strongest material comes from the gap between romantic ideas of village life and the uncertainty of working a farm. Debt remains an immediate pressure; weather can disrupt plans, while locusts and nilgai threaten crops. The series also makes space for soil analysis, experienced farmers’ knowledge and the role district administrators can play in supporting cultivators. These details give the work a practical texture rather than treating farming as scenery for Raghav’s personal transformation.

Raghav cannot simply decide to farm and expect his intentions to overcome a loan, pests or his lack of experience. Scroll Staff’s July 10, 2025 review puts the point plainly: “Romanticising farming doesn’t help Raghav one bit.” The line captures the show at its sharpest: good intentions are not the same as skill, security or a reliable harvest.
Where does the story lose some of its realism?
The balance shifts as the season moves toward a solution. Scroll praises the early episodes’ plausible setbacks but argues that the later turn from failure to success through technology feels too easy, comparing the effect to a “PowerPoint presentation by the agriculture ministry.” The concern is not that technology has no place in farming; it is that a complex, uncertain livelihood can begin to look as if the right intervention neatly resolves the obstacles the series previously made consequential.

This makes the payoff a matter of expectation. Viewers looking for a grounded account of how a novice learns may find the ending less convincing than the build-up. Those more open to an inspirational drama may be more willing to accept its clean forward momentum.
How well do the characters and village setting work?
The unglamorous locations and respectful depiction of farm work are central strengths. India Today’s Pritinanda Behera, in a July 16, 2025 review that rated the series 3/5, praised its muddy, imperfect village setting and treatment of farming. The Times of India review likewise points to the village mood, dialect, humor and dignity of farm work, while noting that the slower pace and lack of urban spectacle will not suit every viewer.

That makes Mitti less a story about an urban man being forced to fit in than one about a hopeful outsider trying to make a plan work. The distinction helps define the show, though its other threads are less fully served. India Today notes that romance, family conflict and local politics do not all receive the same depth of development.
Is Mitti: Ek Nayi Pehchaan worth watching?
Yes, if you want a Hindi drama with an uncommon farming-focused premise, a textured village atmosphere and genuine interest in the pressures facing cultivators. Its early episodes are especially engaging when debt, weather, pests and inexperience push back against Raghav’s optimism. Go in expecting a drama rather than a documentary: the show’s attention to agricultural challenges is a strength, but its eventual technological uplift makes the resolution feel neater than the problems that came before it.
