But Naruto has no official top-ten ranking for Minato’s techniques, and the available official material does not substantiate ten distinct jutsu well enough for a reliable ranked list. Here is what the canon-backed evidence does establish, with living Minato kept distinct from his reanimated war-arc version.
How to judge Minato’s strongest jutsu
This is an editorial comparison, not an official Naruto power scale. It weighs three things: demonstrated impact in the story, tactical versatility, and repeatability. Those criteria matter because a teleportation technique, a direct attack, and a life-costing seal do different jobs. The ranking below includes only techniques and abilities supported by the cited official Naruto material; it does not invent a ten-entry list where the evidence falls short.

Minato’s reputation is grounded in outcomes, not just his speed. The NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE’s 2023 account recounts the Kannabi Bridge mission and says enemy shinobi were warned to flee when they encountered him. It also describes his encounters with Ay and his actions during the Nine-Tails crisis. The same account says Minato was 24 years old when he died; that is biographical context, not evidence of a technique’s strength. NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE, “Yellow Flash of Konoha: Tales of Minato Namikaze’s Valor” (2023).
The strongest canon-supported techniques and abilities
1. Flying Raijin (Flying Thunder God)
Flying Raijin is Minato’s clearest choice for the top spot. The 2024 NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE database describes it as a technique that transports the user to previously marked points. Its value is not limited to offense: it supports evasion, rapid repositioning, rescue, and counterattacks. The official Minato account describes him using it against Ay and to move the Nine Tails away from the village; the site’s episode listing also records its use in the scene involving the masked assailant and newborn Naruto.
#1 Best Overall
- Viz Media
- The world’s most popular ninja comic
- Naruto is a young shinobi with an incorrigible knack for mischief.
Those feats make Flying Raijin unusually versatile and consequential. Its demonstrated use across different crises gives it a stronger case for repeatable battlefield utility than a one-time sealing act. The database also distinguishes Minato’s technique from Boruto’s version, so their applications should not be treated as interchangeable. NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE, “Boruto Database: Flying Raijin Jutsu” (2024-06-04); Minato’s history and feats; NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE episode listing, “The Fourth Hokage’s Death Match”.
2. Rasengan
Rasengan is Minato’s signature direct attack and a major piece of his legacy. The official Naruto site says he created it and that Kushina gave it its name. Minato intended to add a nature transformation, but the version associated with his creation should not be conflated with later developments. Naruto evolved the technique into Wind Style: Rasen Shuriken; that later form belongs to Naruto, not Minato. NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE, “Inheriting Minato’s Ninjutsu: Completion and Evolution” (2023).

3. Reaper Death Seal
Minato’s Reaper Death Seal ranks highly for consequence, not repeatable combat utility. During the Nine-Tails crisis, he used it to seal half of the Nine Tails’ chakra in himself and the remainder in newborn Naruto. The act cost Minato his life, so it cannot be assessed as an ordinary technique he could repeatedly bring to a fight. The official account identifies the relevant manga chapter as “Minato’s Reaper Death Seal!!” and draws on volume 53, chapters 501–504. NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE, “Yellow Flash of Konoha: Tales of Minato Namikaze’s Valor” (2023).
4. Kurama Link Mode (reanimated Minato only)
Kurama Link Mode is a major power-up, but it is not a standalone jutsu in the same sense as Flying Raijin, Rasengan, or Reaper Death Seal. It belongs to Minato’s reanimated appearance during the Fourth Great Ninja War: the official Naruto birthday column says he was revived, made peace with Kurama, and then used Kurama’s chakra. It should therefore be counted only when the comparison includes reanimated war-arc Minato, not treated as a capability of living Minato. NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE, Minato birthday column (2024).

Why this is not a ten-technique ranking
The official sources cited here establish these signature techniques and the war-arc power-up, but they do not establish a complete, authoritative set of ten Minato jutsu or a canonical order. Other sealing, barrier, summoning, and sage techniques may be candidates for a broader manga-based list, but the cited material does not provide enough detail to describe their mechanics or compare their rank confidently. A ten-item ranking would imply a level of verification the evidence does not support.
For readers who want to revisit the core Nine-Tails crisis material, the official site points to Naruto manga volume 53, chapters 501–504. The site also notes that some articles may be machine-translated, information can vary by region, and pages reflect information current at publication.
Rank #4
What the story says about Minato’s reputation
The NARUTO OFFICIAL SITE’s account attributes to Ay the description of Minato as “a noble man” and “a finer shinobi never lived.” That is Ay’s praise after their rivalry, not an objective ranking of jutsu. The same page reproduces Minato’s words, “I’VE GOT MY OWN RESPONSIBILITIES. I CAN’T FAIL!”, and identifies its account of volume 57, chapter 543 as the source. These lines add context to Minato’s character and reputation, but the ranking above rests on what his techniques demonstrably accomplish.
