Why Milla Jovovich was linked to Twilight of the Dead
Roundtable Entertainment initially announced Jovovich and Betty Gabriel for Twilight of the Dead, describing the project as the seventh and final installment of George A. Romero’s Living Dead franchise. Brad Anderson was attached to direct at that stage. In the announcement, producer Sarah Donnelly said, “We’re thrilled to share Milla Jovovich’s return to the zombie genre in this fresh and original way with Twilight of the Dead.” That quote described the earlier casting announcement, not the later production. Who is in the reported completed version?
A report dated May 15, 2026 said Beckinsale took over Jovovich’s role and that Doron and Yoav Paz replaced Anderson as directors. The same report said Magenta Light Studios secured North American rights. The May 2026 report describes those changes.
On October 2, 2026, reporting said filming had wrapped the previous month, with Beckinsale and Gabriel in the cast and Greg Nicotero handling special effects. A current film listing identifies the movie as being in post-production. Taken together, these later reports describe a production different from the one in which Jovovich was first announced. What is the film about, and how is Romero involved?
Twilight of the Dead is based on a story or treatment George A. Romero developed before his death. Romero did not direct the completed production; the later version is directed by the Paz brothers. It is therefore more accurate to describe it as based on Romero’s story or conceived as his franchise finale than as a film he completed or directed.
Available descriptions place the story in a devastated, zombie-infested world where survivors contend with conflict among human factions as well as an evolving undead threat. These are reported premise details, not a verified synopsis of the final cut. The project has been described as the final installment in the franchise that began with Night of the Living Dead in 1968.

When will Twilight of the Dead be released?
No release date or streaming platform is established in the available reports. The May 2026 report said Magenta Light Studios planned theatrical distribution in the United States and Canada after securing North American rights. That is a reported distribution plan, not a confirmed release date or a streaming announcement.
