Miles Teller did not name anyone. In a November 2025 interview, he suggested that “maybe there was one really important person who kind of f***ed it all up,” but left the person unidentified. TheWrap speculated that he might have meant director Josh Trank; that was the outlet’s inference, not an accusation Teller made by name.
What Miles Teller said about the film
Teller revisited the 2015 Fantastic Four during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM program. He recalled that after first seeing the movie, he spoke to a studio head and said, “I think we’re in trouble.” The Independent published its account of the interview on November 14, 2025; TheWrap’s account appeared a day earlier, on November 13.
Teller also spoke warmly about the cast and the work people put into the production. “That was our chance, and the casting, I thought, was spectacular. I love all those actors,” he said, according to The Independent. His retrospective paired disappointment with praise for colleagues, rather than blaming the cast.
Did Teller identify the person he meant?
No. The cited accounts report no name from Teller. TheWrap floated Josh Trank, the film’s director, as a possible interpretation of Teller’s remark. That speculation should not be recast as Teller explicitly blaming Trank.

What was happening around the film’s release?
The 2015 film starred Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, and was directed by Trank. At the time, coverage described harsh reviews and a public dispute over the movie’s final cut: TIME’s August 7, 2015 roundup reported that Trank distanced himself from the finished film. That release-era conflict is relevant context, but it does not establish a single cause for the film’s reception or performance.
How did the film perform at the box office?
TheWrap reported in 2025 that the 2015 film opened domestically to just under $26 million, about $14 million below projections. This is an opening-weekend estimate, not the film’s final gross or a complete account of its financial performance. An audited budget or profit-and-loss calculation is not established by the cited reporting.

The Associated Press reported that it opened with $118 million in North American ticket sales and $218 million worldwide in July 2025. Those figures describe that film’s opening, not the 2015 movie, and should not be compared with the earlier film’s domestic opening estimate as though both were final worldwide totals.
