The available publisher information establishes the connection to Longworth’s series, but not a precise book-to-episode map. Don’t assume that each episode corresponds to a particular novel without checking a reliable episode-specific source.
Longworth has described Aix as the inspiration for her fictional setting. In an ITV press-pack interview, she said she moved to France in 1997, wrote freelance articles about Aix, and later chose to write fiction set in the city. That local foundation helps explain why the setting is central to the mystery series rather than just scenery.

The city connects the cases, the characters’ lives and Longworth’s source material. Verlaque’s position as an investigating judge gives him a role in local criminal inquiries, while Marine and Hélène bring the investigation into contact with people and institutions around Aix. The result is a mystery drama rooted in a specific place, rather than a case-of-the-week premise detached from its setting.
