Major spoilers: This explanation covers the diary revelations and later plot summaries.
Hitogami’s central motive is self-preservation. The diary revelations recast his helpful-seeming advice to Rudeus as an effort to influence events and avert a future threat linked to Rudeus’s descendants. That does not mean every suggestion is harmful or that Rudeus never benefits; it means apparent helpfulness is not proof of honest intent.
What does Hitogami want from Rudeus?
Hitogami wants to protect himself from a future in which Rudeus’s descendants become a threat to him. Later plot summaries point to that connection, but the evidence available here does not establish the precise role each descendant plays or the exact mechanics of the threat. The safest reading is that Rudeus’s family matters strategically to Hitogami, not simply because of personal spite.
The anime first presents Hitogami as a mysterious being who calls himself a god and advises Rudeus. The official episode 9 synopsis describes their encounter, but does not spell out Hitogami’s hidden motive: official episode 9 synopsis.

Why does Hitogami help Rudeus?
Advice can be useful to Rudeus in the short term and still serve Hitogami’s longer-term interests. A helpful manner can win trust or guide events toward an outcome Hitogami prefers. The diary changes how Rudeus can interpret those encounters: advice is no longer just cryptic guidance, but part of a pattern of influence.
That retrospective reading should not be overstated. The plot summaries describe Rudeus and Orsted reviewing how Hitogami’s interventions affected events, but they do not support a claim that every individual suggestion was knowingly harmful or designed for only one purpose.

What did Oldeus’s diary reveal?
The diary provides a record that lets Rudeus reconsider earlier advice in light of its consequences. Its importance is less that it proves every detail of Hitogami’s plan than that it gives Rudeus a basis to recognize a strategic pattern and understand why his family may matter to Hitogami’s survival.
The official anime website identifies the diary material as part of original light novel volume 15 and says it was specially released following the broadcast of season 3 episode 13, “Diary”: official anime announcement. The diary section in light novel volume 15 is the relevant source-volume location; regional editions and listings may vary.

How the diary changes the interpretation of Hitogami
| Question | Before the diary | After the diary |
|---|---|---|
| What does Rudeus know? | He encounters a mysterious self-proclaimed god who offers advice. | He has a record that lets him compare advice with later consequences. |
| Who benefits? | Some advice can appear to help Rudeus directly. | Those short-term benefits can coexist with Hitogami’s strategic interest in shaping events. |
| How certain is the explanation? | The official episode synopsis establishes the initial encounter. | The self-preservation motive and descendant-linked threat are described in later plot summaries; the official anime synopsis does not confirm their full details. |
This distinction helps avoid two easy mistakes: treating Hitogami as a straightforward benefactor because some advice seems useful, or treating every interaction as proof of a fully known scheme. The diary supports a more cautious conclusion: he influences Rudeus while pursuing interests of his own.

- Established by official adaptation material: Hitogami appears to Rudeus as a mysterious being who calls himself a god, and the anime associates the diary section with light novel volume 15 and season 3 episode 13.
- Indicated by later plot summaries: Hitogami’s motive is self-preservation, with a future threat linked to Rudeus’s descendants.
- Not established by those official pages: a complete account of the cosmology, the exact mechanics of fate, the precise actions of each descendant, or the final resolution.
For those latter details, the available plot accounts are fan-maintained summaries rather than the primary novel text, so they should not be treated as definitive confirmation of every mechanism or outcome.
