Moreno fue sometida a un procedimiento dental con anestesia en Dreamtime Dentistry, una clínica de Vista, en el condado de San Diego. El contexto del antecedente disciplinario del anestesiólogo
NBC 7 San Diego informó que el dentista anestesiólogo había recibido probation disciplinaria estatal tras un incidente de 2016 con un paciente adulto. Ese antecedente es distinto del caso de Moreno y, por sí solo, no demuestra qué causó su muerte ni establece una relación entre ambos hechos. En un informe publicado en 2023, la Junta Dental de California identificó una muerte pediátrica en la que se utilizó anestesia general o sedación profunda durante un procedimiento dental entre el 1 de enero de 2017 y el 1 de agosto de 2023. Es un conteo limitado a ese informe y período; no es una tasa de mortalidad ni permite calcular el riesgo individual de un procedimiento. El período revisado termina antes de la muerte de Moreno.
