Megan Drye texted her sisters photos of rising floodwater in Asheville on September 27, 2024, before her family’s home collapsed. Drye survived; her seven-year-old son, Micah, and her parents, Nora and Michael Drye, died. Her sister Jessica Drye Turner later posted images and asked for prayers on Facebook, according to NBC News’ interview report.
What the photos showed—and who shared them
The photos were part of the morning’s unfolding emergency: Drye sent images of rising water to her sisters before the roof gave way. NBC News’ account describes the sequence from Drye’s interview; it does not establish an exact time through independently verified photo metadata. Her sister, Jessica Drye Turner, shared images publicly and requested prayers. The reporting does not say that Megan Drye herself posted the photos publicly.
Turner’s Facebook post, as described in the NBC News report, helped communicate the family’s crisis while they were in danger. The photos document rising water, but the available reporting does not establish more about what each image depicted.
How the family became trapped
In her interview with NBC News, Drye recalled that the family climbed onto the roof as floodwater surrounded their Asheville home. They remained there for three to four hours as water and debris moved around them. Then, she said, the house collapsed and swept the family into the flood.

Those are figures reported at that time, not a current or final count. They provide context for the scale of the disaster, but Drye’s account remains a personal story of one family’s loss and survival.
