Why did Hilton keep Phoenix’s arrival private?
Hilton said her life had been so public that she wanted the surrogacy plans and the experience of welcoming her son to remain private between her and Reum. She also said she did not want Phoenix to enter the world amid public commentary or what she called “negative energy.” Speaking to Romper, as reported by Vanity Fair, Hilton said, “My life has been so public, so out there. I didn’t want my son coming into this world with any negative energy.”
In the same interview, she said she was glad she and Reum had shared the journey without the outside world “chirping in.” Glamour also reported Hilton’s explanation that she wanted to keep the plans private because her life had been so public. These are the reasons she gave; they do not establish any undisclosed motive.

Why did Paris Hilton choose surrogacy?
Hilton has linked her choice to fear of childbirth and medical procedures, which she connected to traumatic experiences during her teenage years. She described anxiety around doctors’ offices, shots and IVs, and said that witnessing a birth during The Simple Life had also traumatized her. These are Hilton’s public explanations, reported by Vanity Fair and Glamour, not an independent medical assessment.
The Associated Press’s 2023 review of Hilton’s memoir summarizes her account of abuse and medical trauma at teen facilities. That offers background to experiences she later connected to fear of medical settings; it does not describe the births or explain the couple’s privacy decisions.

In April 2024, Hilton told E! News that she was not ready to share photos of London publicly and wanted to keep her daughter to herself until the time felt right. ABC News quoted her saying, “I feel like my life has just been so public with everything. So I just wanted to keep my little girl to me. But I’m gonna show her to the world soon ’cause everyone keeps asking.” Reum also said they were “not ready to share her w[ith] the world,” according to ABC News.
Those comments describe their public position in April 2024, not a permanent policy or necessarily their current choices. The births and children were publicly announced; “kept them secret” refers to a period of limited disclosure about the plans and arrivals, not to the children remaining unknown today.
