It is an estimate, not a verified accounting of his assets or debts: the available reporting does not disclose how the figure was calculated or establish Baer’s current finances.
What is Max Baer Jr.’s net worth?
The figure most often cited is $50 million, an estimate from Celebrity Net Worth as reported by Parade in 2025. No reviewed source provides a verified valuation of Baer’s current assets, liabilities, or income, so the number should not be treated as a confirmed personal balance sheet.
Historical film grosses and Baer’s own comments help explain why his career may be associated with substantial earnings, but neither establishes what he retained or what he is worth today.
How did Max Baer Jr. make money?
Acting and The Beverly Hillbillies
Baer became widely known as Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies. Acting was one part of a career that later included writing, producing, and directing films; the available sources do not break down his television earnings or provide a lifetime income total.

Writing and producing Macon County Line
Baer wrote, produced, and starred in Macon County Line (1974). In a 2008 interview with TV Guide, he said, “It wasn’t until I produced and wrote Macon County Line that I made a lot of money.” That is useful first-person context about the film’s importance to his finances, but he did not give a dollar amount.
The film’s reported production budget and box-office totals vary by source and year. Northern Nevada Business Weekly reported in 2003 that it cost $110,000 to make and grossed almost $25 million. The Los Angeles Times reported in 2000 that it grossed more than $35 million. These are historical reports of production cost and box-office receipts, not a calculation of Baer’s personal proceeds.

The Los Angeles Times also lists Baer’s film work as including The McCullochs, Ode to Billy Joe, and Hometown USA. Northern Nevada Business Weekly reported a $1.1 million production cost and $27 million in box-office earnings for Ode to Billy Joe in 2003; those figures likewise do not establish Baer’s personal earnings.
Do film box-office figures show how much he earned?
No. A reported box-office gross is not the same as a film’s profit, the amount paid to its makers, or an individual’s take-home income. The cited accounts do not specify the contracts, distribution arrangements, expenses, taxes, or ownership shares needed to calculate Baer’s proceeds from either film. His statement that Macon County Line made him a lot of money supports its significance to him, but not a specific net-worth total.

Did Beverly Hillbillies licensing or a casino project add to his fortune?
Baer pursued licensing and a themed casino concept, but the available reporting documents plans and obstacles—not a completed resort or verified income from either venture. He told TV Guide he got the casino idea in 1989 and obtained rights from CBS in 1991. A 2003 Northern Nevada Business Weekly report described a proposed hotel and casino, property restrictions, and no plans or applications submitted to the city at that time.
In a 2000 Los Angeles Times interview, Baer described a proposed financing condition for the project: “Until the people who own the mall [next door] are willing to spend $25 [million] to $30 million to revamp the mall, my investment bankers are not going to go out and try to raise $175 million to build a beautiful hotel and casino attached to a toilet.” This was a description of a proposed financing plan, not evidence that the casino was built or generated revenue for him.
