How do The Dockery and the Dockery Snap Bag differ?
The clearest distinction in the launch descriptions is the closure: The Dockery used a handmade solid brass and aluminium mechanism, while the Snap Bag used a magnetic snap closure within a leather frame. Both were described as structured bags of similar shape and proportion, and both had organized interiors.

What inspired the collection?
Dockery told Vogue that the designs drew on a vintage handbag owned by her grandmother, which she remembered loving as a child. That family memory is the stated inspiration for the Aspinal collaboration.
Her comments about bags from Downton Abbey describe a separate influence from her acting experience, not the collection’s design origin. She recalled Lady Mary carrying wrist-hung reticules before moving to simple 1920s clutch bags, saying, “I wanted to take them home with me!” Dockery also described Mary as “the most stylish character I’ve ever played” and said, “I learned that less is always more and changing up colors and styles is fun.” These remarks are from Lynn Yaeger’s Vogue interview, published September 18, 2016.
Can you still buy an Aspinal Dockery bag?
Current availability is not established by the official pages available here. Aspinal’s Dockery Collection landing page displays a collection heading and imagery but no visible model details, inventory or purchase information. That is not enough to confirm whether the original bags remain available.
Aspinal’s current women’s handbag page lists other styles and categories, including Mayfair and London Tote, but does not identify them as part of the Dockery collaboration. They are current brand offerings, not documented Dockery models.
