What happened at Back to the Beginning?
Back to the Beginning brought Black Sabbath’s farewell show to Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. Metallica and Guns N’ Roses performed Sabbath songs as part of the event, alongside selections from their own catalogs. Metallica described its appearance as an homage to the influence of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. Its retrospective also says the show benefited Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorns Children’s Hospice, and Cure Parkinson’s.
Which Black Sabbath songs did Metallica play?
Metallica’s six-song set included two Black Sabbath covers: “Hole in the Sky” and “Johnny Blade.” The other four songs were Metallica originals: “Creeping Death,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “Battery,” and “Master of Puppets.” The official event page lists the set in this order:

Which Black Sabbath songs did Guns N’ Roses play?
Guns N’ Roses performed four Sabbath covers: “It’s Alright,” “Never Say Die,” “Junior’s Eyes,” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.” The setlist listing records “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City” after those covers.
