Megan Moroney addressed speculation about her connection with Morgan Wallen during a July 31, 2024 appearance on Call Her Daddy. Her answer was not a simple yes or no: she said they were “not just friends” at one point, but they never exclusively dated and, as she put it, “It was never a relationship.”
What Megan Moroney said about Morgan Wallen
In the interview with host Alex Cooper, Moroney described a close connection without calling it a relationship. “We were friends for a long time. We were not just friends. And now we’re friends,” she said. She also said, “It was never a relationship.” Fox News Digital reported her comments.
Moroney said they “weren’t exclusively dating ever.” She explained that their schedules made it difficult to spend time together: when they tried to meet up, they might have only one day in a month when both were available. That distinction matters: her account was that they were more than friends at one point, but not an exclusive couple and not in a relationship as she defined one.
How they met and why the rumors grew
Moroney said fellow country artist Jon Langston introduced them in 2020. She described them as friends for a long time before the connection became a subject of public speculation. Fox News Digital reported the meeting and her account.

Listeners connected the rumors to Moroney’s song “Tennessee Orange,” its University of Tennessee Volunteers imagery, and a shirt she said belonged to Wallen. Wallen’s “Tennessee Fan” added to fan interpretations. Those details help explain why people linked the artists, but the reporting does not confirm that either song is about the other. Moroney said, “I will not say who I sing my songs about ever.” Fox News Digital covered the song-related speculation.
Are Moroney and Wallen still friends?
In comments reported in November 2025, Moroney again said they were friends: “Him and I are still friends.” She also said fan speculation would not keep her from writing about her feelings: “I never let the possibility that people might speculate who [a song] is about, stop me from writing about how this situation made me feel.” Holler and Just Jared reported the remarks, attributing them to an interview with People.
