Multiple women have publicly accused Brian Warner, who performs as Marilyn Manson, of abuse or sexual assault; Warner has denied the allegations. On January 24, 2025, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said it would not file criminal charges after a four-year investigation. That decision was not a trial or a finding that the allegations were true or false. The title’s “monster hiding in plain sight” wording is a question posed by NOW TV, not a factual conclusion.
What Marilyn Manson: Unmasked covers
NOW TV describes Marilyn Manson: Unmasked as a three-episode series examining allegations in the context of Warner’s career. Its catalog summary says the series includes accounts from accusers and people who support him. That description tells viewers how the platform frames the program; it is not itself a court record or an independent finding about the allegations.

What is publicly alleged—and what Warner says
Secondary reporting describes allegations made by Evan Rachel Wood and other women, and reports that Warner denied abuse and assault. The available account is high-level: it does not provide a complete record of every allegation or the underlying complaints and responses. Individual claims should therefore be kept separate and attributed to the person making them or to the reporting that describes them.

What the Los Angeles County decision means
On January 24, 2025, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said prosecutors in its Sex Crimes Division and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detectives had completed a comprehensive four-year investigation into allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault against Warner. The office announced that it would not file charges.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman gave these reasons: “We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Those are the prosecutor’s stated grounds for declining charges. The decision was not an acquittal, a trial verdict, or a judicial determination of whether the allegations occurred. In particular, the statute-of-limitations reason concerns whether charges could be brought within the applicable time limit; it does not resolve the factual dispute.

How the civil cases differ from the criminal investigation
Civil lawsuits and criminal prosecutions are separate legal processes. The reporting available for this account says Esmé Bianco’s civil suit settled and that other civil cases were dismissed. Those outcomes should not be treated as convictions or as broad factual exonerations. A settlement does not establish the truth of every allegation, and a dismissal—especially without the relevant order and procedural context—does not establish that an allegation was false.
The available timeline is not a complete docket history and does not establish the present status of every civil proceeding. It is not enough to give a definitive case-by-case account of claims, rulings, or current status.

How to assess the documentary’s treatment
For a careful view, distinguish what the program presents from what legal records establish. These questions help clarify the difference:
- Which accusers and specific allegations are included?
- Are Warner’s denials and other responses represented, and in what form?
- Does the program show or link to primary records, such as complaints, rulings, or dated statements?
- Does it distinguish the criminal charging decision from civil settlements and dismissals?
- When was the program or its catalog description published, and where is the series available?
The NOW TV catalog provides a description of one series, not enough evidence to rank it against other documentaries or to verify every claim it covers. The phrase “monster hiding in plain sight” is the platform’s provocative framing; the evidence and legal outcomes should be considered on their own terms.
