Manu Gavassi said she had expected her audiovisual album Gracinha to be considered for Best Long Form Music Video at the 2022 Latin Grammy Awards. After it was left off the nominations, she described her disappointment as a wish for recognition in a category she felt fit the project.
What happened
The 2022 Latin Grammy nominations were announced on September 20, 2022. Gavassi’s 2021 audiovisual album Gracinha was not among the nominees for Best Long Form Music Video, the category she had expected it to enter. UOL Splash reported on her response the following day.

Why Gavassi expected recognition
In a later appearance on the podcast Um Milkshake Chamado Wanda, Gavassi explained that the category’s focus on audiovisual music projects shaped her expectation. O Povo reported that she noted relatively few audiovisual albums were being made, and that people involved in the project, including the label, shared the expectation of a nomination. O Povo’s account of the podcast appearance and POPline’s report describe the production as a large, demanding project made with Brazilian professionals.
As quoted by O Povo, Gavassi said: “A minha frustração foi que era uma categoria muito específica para projetos audiovisuais na música.” She also said, “Merecia, nessa categoria específica, ter uma luzinha ali. Foi só isso“. The remarks frame her disappointment as a desire for acknowledgment of Gracinha in that particular category.

What the nomination list shows—and what it does not
O Povo lists Rosalía, Siudy Garrido, Natalia Lafourcade and Vetusta Morla among the nominees for Best Long Form Music Video. Gavassi’s comments explain why she believed Gracinha merited consideration; they do not establish that the nomination process was unfair or reveal why the Academy did not select it.

In a separate remark reported by POPline and Purebreak, Gavassi said: “Às vezes acho que mereço mais reconhecimento, porque eu me esforço muito”. In English, the sentence means, “Sometimes I think I deserve more recognition, because I work very hard.” This is a translation, not a verbatim English quotation. Purebreak also reported the recognition comment.
