The Rip briefly came close to the top of a specific Rotten Tomatoes ranking: Netflix original action films. Forbes reported on January 17, 2026, that the film had an 82% Tomatometer score, behind Rebel Ridge at 95%. That was not an all-time record across every Netflix film. On Rotten Tomatoes’ listing accessed October 8, 2026, The Rip stood at 77% from 162 critic reviews, with a 65% audience score from more than 2,500 ratings.

Those figures may change as reviews and ratings are added. The critic and audience scores also measure different groups, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.
Did The Rip set a Netflix Rotten Tomatoes record?
No broad, all-time Netflix record is established by the figures behind the headline. The “nearly” refers to a narrower category and a particular date: Netflix original action films, as ranked in Forbes’s January 17 report. In that comparison, The Rip was second to Rebel Ridge, not the highest-rated film across Netflix’s entire catalog.

A Rotten Tomatoes percentage is also distinct from a Netflix viewing ranking. The former reflects the share of reviews or audience ratings that are positive; Netflix’s reported views measure viewing activity over a stated period.
How popular was The Rip on Netflix?
Netflix’s own reports show strong viewership, but in two different ranking contexts. Netflix Tudum reported 41.6 million views for the week covered in its January 20, 2026 report, placing the film first on its English-language film list for the week of January 12. Netflix called it the biggest film opening since Happy Gilmore 2.

- Runtime: 155 minutes
In a later list covering the first half of 2026, Netflix placed The Rip at No. 2 with 136.1 million views. That first-half ranking uses a longer reporting period, so its total should not be confused with the one-week figure.
