Kerr flew to Perth to be with her, and wrote: “Thank you for all the messages, love & prayers for my Nan.” Coral’s condition was initially reported as serious; a later report said she recovered from the crash and died aged 90 in 2025.
What happened to Coral Kerr in Palmyra?
On Friday, 27 December 2024, 89-year-old Coral Kerr was hit by a white Great Wall ute after getting off a bus near the intersection of Marmion and Justinian streets in Palmyra, The West Australian reported. The newspaper cited police as saying she was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries. A hospital spokesperson later described her condition as serious but stable on Friday night. Those descriptions reflect reports from the time of the crash, not her later condition. The West Australian’s report attributed to a neighbour an account that the driver tried to overtake a stopped bus and mounted the kerb; that was a witness account, not a finding established here.
What did Sam Kerr say to supporters?
PerthNow reported on 30 December 2024 that Kerr had flown from New South Wales to Perth the previous day to be with her grandmother. In an Instagram story, Kerr wrote: “Thank you for all the messages, love & prayers for my Nan,” followed by a kiss. PerthNow’s report reproduced the message.
Why was Coral important to Kerr?
A 2020 Matildas profile described a close, longstanding connection between Kerr and her grandmother, including regular messages and calls, FaceTime conversations, visits when Kerr was home and family meals. Coral said: “Nearly every week, she sends me a message, I phone her. I FaceTime with her.” She also spoke of watching Kerr’s career with pride: “It’s hard to describe the feeling. It’s so much pride and yet she’s just my grand-daughter. But it’s absolutely amazing.”

How is Coral Kerr now?
Coral’s later status differs from the urgent hospital update in the December 2024 coverage. A 7NEWS report published on 9 September 2025 said she recovered from the crash, celebrated her 90th birthday in April, and later died aged 90. 7NEWS reported on her death and recovery.

PerthNow reported in December 2024 that the driver had been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and was due to appear at Fremantle Magistrates Court in February. In its September 2025 report, 7NEWS said a man had pleaded not guilty to two charges and was next due in court in November. These are dated updates, not a final case outcome; the final disposition is not established in the cited reports.
