The episode is titled “Finn Ames and the Friend.” The official U.S. MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES episode page numbers it Episode 17 overall. What happens in “Finn Ames and the Friend”?
After passing the selection exam’s first round, Mash, Dot, and Finn form a team for the Life Crystal competition. As the official episode page puts it, “Their next challenge is ‘The Life Crystal,’ a competition where teams must simply break the other teams’ crystals.”
The team members start from separate locations. Before the challenge begins, Mash and Dot break the crystals assigned to them, leaving the team with only one. Finn then encounters Carpaccio Luo-yang, a student from Orca Dorm. The episode’s official synopsis confirms the setup and Finn’s encounter: official episode synopsis.

Is this the episode with the forest scorpions?
No. That is a different episode: first-season Episode 5, “Mash Burnedead and the Unpopular Classmate.” Its story includes an earlier match against Lance, the rescue of Finn, Lemon, and Tom from a bottle, and an Adler–Lang forest scorpion activity with Dot. Official page for “Mash Burnedead and the Unpopular Classmate”.
The numbering can be confusing because “Episode 5” may mean the fifth episode of Season 1 or the fifth episode of Season 2. For the Life Crystal challenge and Finn’s meeting with Carpaccio, look for the Season 2 listing titled “Finn Ames and the Friend,” or overall Episode 17.
