Marvel once pitched Chris Evans on a movie about Steve Rogers as Nomad after Avengers: Endgame, but Evans declined that idea at the time. His account makes a Nomad story an intriguing possibility—not a confirmed standalone film. The story space is still there: the MCU showed Steve choosing a life with Peggy Carter, then left most of that life unexplored.
Was Steve Rogers supposed to become Nomad after Endgame?
Chris Evans said Marvel executives Kevin Feige and Lou D’Esposito pitched him on continuing Steve Rogers’s story in movies as Nomad after Avengers: Endgame. Evans recalled them saying, “We’d love to keep doing movies with Steve Rogers as Nomad.” He did not feel ready to return then and declined the pitch. GamesRadar+ reported his account following a 2026 interview.
Evans later accepted a different pitch: returning for Avengers: Doomsday. He said hearing that Robert Downey Jr. was coming back helped make that opportunity feel right. The two pitches should not be conflated. Evans’s account documents an earlier idea he turned down, not an announced Nomad production or a claim that Doomsday will use that identity.
What does Nomad mean in Marvel Comics?
For Steve Rogers, Nomad is an identity he takes on after becoming disillusioned with government corruption and laying aside his Captain America uniform and shield. Marvel’s collection description sums up the change: “a new legend is born: Nomad, the man without a country?” It also emphasizes that setting aside a lifetime of heroics is not simple.

The comics premise is therefore about a hero’s relationship to government and national identity. It could offer thematic material for a screen story, but it is distinct from the MCU’s explanation for Steve’s postwar life. Readers curious about the comics version can start with Marvel’s Captain America and the Falcon: Nomad; it is comics background, not a guide to a confirmed film adaptation.
What did Endgame leave open about Steve’s life with Peggy?
At the end of Endgame, Steve returns to the past and stays with Peggy Carter. The film presents this as a choice to live a life beyond his role as Captain America, but it does not chronicle what he did during all the years that followed.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo explained that Steve used a quantum suit and a Pym particle to make the trip back, then passed the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson. Joe Russo described Steve’s choice as creating an alternate reality. In his account, the details of Steve’s life there were not fully known; he said he liked to believe Steve helped people in that reality. That is the director’s explanation, not a complete account of Steve’s unseen years.
That gap is what makes the idea of revisiting Steve compelling: a story could explore how he lived after leaving the shield behind. But the comics’ government-corruption origin and the MCU’s time-travel ending are different starting points. One does not establish that the other will be adapted.

Will Avengers: Doomsday call Steve Nomad or explain his years with Peggy?
The available statements do not establish that Doomsday will call Steve “Nomad,” adapt the original Nomad comics story, or reveal the full history of his life with Peggy. Evans connected his return to a Doomsday pitch he accepted after hearing about Downey’s return; he did not say that the movie was the earlier Nomad project.
So there are two separate things to keep in view: Marvel once discussed Nomad movies with Evans, and Evans is now returning for Doomsday. Whether the film connects those facts—or tells any particular version of Steve’s post-Endgame story—remains unknown.
