Marvel did not confirm that Iron Man is coming back. A May 22, 2021 BGR article used comments from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about multiverse storytelling to suggest a possible route for another version of Tony Stark to appear. Feige did not mention Iron Man, and BGR explicitly noted that his return was unconfirmed. Read the original BGR article.
What the 2021 article said—and what it did not
The headline’s word “confirmed” overstates the evidence. BGR’s article, published May 22, 2021, discussed an Entertainment Weekly interview with Feige and actor Tom Hiddleston ahead of the Loki series. Feige spoke generally about what multiverse stories can do: “Part of the fun of the multiverse and playing with time is seeing other versions of characters, and other versions of the titular character in particular.”
That remark describes a storytelling possibility; it does not name Tony Stark, promise an Iron Man appearance, or announce a Marvel plan. BGR’s suggestion that the same idea might apply to Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow was the article’s extrapolation, not a Marvel confirmation.
How a multiverse version could appear without undoing Endgame
The proposed route is an alternate version of a character: a Tony Stark from a different timeline, rather than the original Tony being restored after his story’s ending. BGR used Loki as an example. In Avengers: Endgame, a Loki from the 2012 timeline escapes with the Tesseract, creating a separate story thread that the Loki series could follow.

Hiddleston described the distinction this way: “So the Odinson saga, that trilogy of films, still has its integrity, and we don’t have to reopen it and retell it.” He was discussing Loki and the separation of that series from the original Thor trilogy—not making a statement about Iron Man.
That example explains the logic behind the speculation, but it does not establish that Marvel will use the same device for Tony Stark. The 2021 article does not identify a specific Iron Man plot, scene, or appearance.

Could Iron Man return after Avengers: Endgame?
A multiverse story could make an alternate Tony Stark appearance possible without reversing the original character’s ending. That is different from bringing back the same Tony who made his sacrifice in Endgame. Other kinds of appearances—such as a flashback or an archival depiction—would also be distinct from undoing that ending, but the cited article does not report Marvel planning any of them.
Marvel’s official Endgame page calls the film the “grand conclusion to twenty-two films.” It lists the film’s release date as April 26, 2019. In that story context, an alternate version would be a separate creative choice, not proof that the original ending has been reversed.

What later Marvel material establishes
A Marvel interview with Feige published July 25, 2025 discusses the ensemble for Avengers: Doomsday, including the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and X-Men. It does not announce Tony Stark’s return. The interview also does not rule out an unannounced future story or casting decision; it simply provides no confirmation of one. Read Marvel’s interview.
