Marty Scurll acknowledged that he had a sexual encounter in 2015 with a woman who later said she was 16 and intoxicated, but he characterized the encounter as consensual. Her public account described it as sexual abuse. Ring of Honor announced an investigation in June 2020; the contemporaneous report reviewed here did not document its findings.
What the woman alleged
During the #SpeakingOut movement, a woman posted an account on June 22, 2020, describing an encounter after a wrestling event in the UK in 2015. In wording reproduced by ProWrestling.net, she wrote: “He sexually abused me when I was 16 and intoxicated.” That is her allegation, as reported at the time, not an independently adjudicated finding. POST Wrestling also covered the allegation and Scurll’s initial response.
What Scurll said in his statements
June 23: his first response
In a statement reproduced by ProWrestling.net, Scurll said he believed the encounter was consensual. He acknowledged that the woman viewed her experience as part of a wider problem in wrestling and wrote, “She has a right to her voice and it is our responsibility to listen.” He asked people not to attack her on social media.
June 24: a fuller account
In a second statement, reproduced by WrestleTalk, Scurll wrote: “In 2015 after a wrestling event in the UK, I had a brief consensual sexual encounter with a woman.” He said he learned her age after the encounter and added: “Although I did not become aware of her age until after the encounter, the reality of the age disparity is not lost on me.”

Scurll also called for improved safety for female fans and athletes, including better event security protocols. In that context, he wrote: “Words are no longer enough, action is needed.” His statements acknowledge an encounter took place while disputing the allegation’s characterization of it.
What Ring of Honor announced
On June 25, 2020, Ring of Honor (ROH) said it had launched an immediate investigation into claims against its currently contracted wrestlers. WrestleView reproduced the promotion’s statement: “We will update you on our investigation once it concludes.” The report establishes that an investigation was announced; it does not provide its findings.

What happened afterward
On January 4, 2021, F4WOnline reported that ROH and Scurll had “mutually decided to part ways.” That report does not identify the separation as a disciplinary finding or as the outcome of the announced investigation.

The public account and Scurll’s statements differ on how to characterize the encounter. The available contemporaneous reporting supports a clear distinction: the woman alleged sexual abuse and said she was 16 and intoxicated; Scurll acknowledged a 2015 sexual encounter and described it as consensual, saying he learned her age afterward. ROH’s investigation announcement and the later report of the separation are separate events; neither, in the cited reporting, supplies an investigative conclusion.
