Mark Ruffalo’s reason for feeling optimistic about Avengers: Secret Wars was simple: he trusted Marvel and Kevin Feige to deliver an impressive Avengers finale. In 2022, while comparing the film with Avengers: Endgame, he predicted the team would “go out with a big bang.” That was an expression of confidence—not a hint about the plot or confirmation that Hulk would appear.
What did Mark Ruffalo say about Secret Wars?
At the red-carpet premiere of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Ruffalo spoke with Entertainment Tonight about how the next Avengers finale might compare with Endgame. ComicBook.com reported his answer: “It’s gonna be hard to top Endgame, but if I know Kevin and I know Marvel, it’s gonna be a pretty amazing… it’s gonna be a big bang. We’ll go out with a big bang.”
His point was that topping Endgame would be difficult, but he believed Marvel could make the next finale memorable. He did not describe a storyline, identify which heroes would take part, or say how the film would end.
Why was the remark a reason for excitement?
Ruffalo’s enthusiasm came from his confidence in Marvel’s creative leadership, particularly Kevin Feige. For fans, the appeal was the prospect of another large-scale Avengers conclusion from the studio, rather than any concrete story reveal.

BGR’s September 16, 2022 article also placed the remarks alongside Ruffalo’s comment that Jennifer Walters, his She-Hulk co-star, would be part of a future Avengers team. That broader context helped explain the headline, but it did not establish a specific Secret Wars roster.
Did Ruffalo confirm Hulk would be in the movie?
No. The 2022 “big bang” comments do not confirm that Hulk will appear in Secret Wars. They are about Ruffalo’s expectations for Marvel’s next Avengers finale, not a casting announcement.
A separate GamesRadar report published October 7, 2026 quotes Ruffalo describing Hulk and Spider-Man meeting in Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a “teaser for what’s to come” for those characters. That is a distinct comment; the report says their roles in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars were not clear. It should not be read as confirmation of Hulk’s participation in either film.
Which Secret Wars comics might inform the film?
ComicBook.com noted that there are two published Secret Wars comic storylines and raised the Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic run as a possible reference for the MCU film. The report also stressed that Marvel’s exact adaptation was unclear. That storyline is a point of speculation from 2022 coverage, not a confirmed blueprint for the movie.

Readers interested in the comic background can explore the 2015 Hickman/Ribic storyline as its own work. It offers context for one possible source of inspiration, but it should not be treated as a confirmed movie tie-in or adaptation guide.

Ruffalo thought Marvel could deliver a memorable follow-up to Endgame, and he said the Avengers would “go out with a big bang.” The statement explains why his remarks generated excitement, but it leaves the film’s plot, cast, and relationship to either comic storyline unanswered.
