Marjorie de Sousa contó en septiembre de 2024 que se retiró los implantes mamarios. En una entrevista posterior dijo que, cuatro o cinco meses después de la operación, sentía que su salud había mejorado. Es su testimonio personal: no demuestra que los implantes causen síntomas sistémicos en general ni permite conocer los detalles clínicos de su caso.
Qué dijo Marjorie de Sousa sobre la explantación
Telemundo informó el 23 de septiembre de 2024 que la actriz había revelado que se retiró los implantes por motivos de salud. El 30 de septiembre, en una entrevista para Hoy Día, contó que tomó la decisión con orientación médica y describió sus temores ante la cirugía: “Obviamente te da miedo, sobre todo cuando eres mamá, meterte a una cirugía, la anestesia, mil cosas que pueden pasar, pero ya hoy te puedo contar que voy a cumplir cuatro o cinco meses de que me operé y ha sido la mejor decisión que he podido tomar, mi salud de verdad ha cambiado para bien”.
La actriz también habló de su experiencia y sus razones personales en una entrevista de La Mesa Caliente, publicada ese mismo día. En lo divulgado no se identifica al profesional que la orientó. Tampoco se ofrece una fecha exacta de la operación, un diagnóstico, la técnica utilizada ni su expediente médico; por eso, no es posible precisar qué procedimiento recibió o qué síntomas tuvo.
Qué significa su testimonio y qué no permite concluir
De Sousa atribuyó a su propia experiencia una mejoría de salud después de la operación. Esa percepción merece describirse como lo que es: un relato individual, no una prueba de que los implantes fueran la causa de sus síntomas ni de que retirarlos vaya a producir el mismo resultado en otras personas.

La FDA señala que algunas pacientes utilizan el término “breast implant illness” (BII) para referirse a síntomas sistémicos como fatiga, dificultades de memoria o concentración, sarpullido y dolor articular, entre otros. La agencia indica que estos síntomas y sus causas se comprenden poco; algunas pacientes reportan mejoría tras retirar los implantes, pero esos reportes no establecen causalidad en un caso individual.
Qué se retira durante una explantación
La explantación es la cirugía para retirar los implantes. Según la situación clínica, el cirujano puede extraer el implante y dejar la cápsula de tejido cicatricial que lo rodea, o retirar también parte o toda esa cápsula. No son procedimientos idénticos: retirar la cápsula implica más disección y puede aumentar los riesgos locales. La opción adecuada depende del caso y debe conversarse con el cirujano; una noticia sobre una persona no basta para recomendar una técnica.

Si se confirma un BIA-ALCL —un tipo de linfoma asociado a implantes mamarios—, la evaluación y el diagnóstico pueden cambiar el tipo de operación indicada. La FDA describe que la valoración suele incluir examen físico e imágenes y, según el caso, análisis del líquido o tejido alrededor del implante.
Riesgos y cambios posibles tras retirar los implantes
La FDA advierte que los implantes mamarios no son dispositivos para toda la vida y que retirarlos implica riesgos quirúrgicos y de anestesia. Si no se colocan implantes nuevos, la apariencia de las mamas también puede cambiar: pueden quedar hoyuelos, hundimiento o flacidez. La extensión de la cirugía y el resultado estético varían según cada situación.

Ante hinchazón persistente, dolor u otros cambios alrededor de un implante, la FDA aconseja consultar a un profesional de salud. La evaluación puede ayudar a identificar qué ocurre y qué opciones corresponden; no conviene decidir una operación basándose únicamente en síntomas atribuidos de forma general a BII.

En su página sobre reportes de síntomas sistémicos, la FDA registra 10.318 informes de dispositivos médicos; en 4.210 (40,8%) se indicó que la paciente se sometió a la retirada del dispositivo después de que comenzaran los síntomas. Se trata de reportes de vigilancia, no de una tasa de incidencia ni de una medida del riesgo para todas las personas con implantes. Tampoco demuestran que los implantes causaran los síntomas reportados.
