LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy turns its building-block premise into an ethical dilemma: when a single brick can remake the universe, restoring the old order may be as consequential as changing it. Gordon Jackson’s io9 review of the four-part 2024 animated special argues that the story’s central question is not simply how to put the galaxy back, but whether the altered world is worth fighting for.
What the review is about
Jackson’s September 13, 2024, io9 piece is a review of an animated special, not a review of a LEGO set. The special follows brothers Sig and Dev Greebling, who live on Finesa but want different things: Force-sensitive Sig is drawn to adventure, while Dev wants to leave. With their Gonk droid Servo, they discover a Jedi temple and a transparent, single-stud brick called the Cornerstone.
In the story, removing the Cornerstone reshapes the universe. That premise gives LEGO’s familiar act of taking things apart and rebuilding them consequences beyond playful visual remixing. As StarWars.com’s announcement describes it, Sig finds the artifact in a hidden Jedi temple, and it mixes up the galaxy.
How the rebuilt galaxy changes familiar Star Wars
The new universe recasts recognizable places and characters. Jackson points to pepper-covered Crait, a beach-like Tatooine, a surfing Luke Skywalker, and characters whose heroic and villainous roles have switched. Those reversals supply much of the comedy, but they also establish the story’s larger premise: the galaxy’s moral and personal arrangements are not fixed when the Cornerstone is in play.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The deeper question is what it means to treat a populated universe as something one can remake. A changed setting or allegiance is not merely a new configuration when it changes who exists and which relationships survive.
Why putting everything back is not an obvious solution
One concrete consequence in Jackson’s account is that Yesi’s father no longer exists in the altered universe. The conflict becomes preventing either brother from using the Cornerstone to restore the previous reality. That makes “put it back” a choice with its own cost: returning to the former arrangement would also mean choosing which version of people’s lives counts.

The review compares this dilemma with the “what’s done is done” thought experiment in Star Trek: Voyager’s “Tuvix.” The comparison clarifies why undoing a change does not automatically undo its moral weight. If the new reality includes genuine losses and gains, restoration cannot be treated as a neutral reset.
Is the new universe worth fighting for?
Jackson presents the answer as unsettled rather than declaring one universe morally superior. Surfer Luke describes the changed universe as “in some ways worse,” “but in some ways better,” and suggests that “maybe that’s worth fighting for.” That is the character’s view, not an objective verdict from the review.

- What is lost or changed: familiar lives and relationships can disappear, as in the case of Yesi’s father.
- What may be better: the altered arrangement also creates possibilities that the old status quo did not contain.
- What remains unresolved: the story does not establish a universally correct choice between keeping the new galaxy and restoring the old one.
That open question is the point of the review’s “playing god” framing. The Cornerstone makes creation look easy; the story asks whether the person who can remake a world has the right to decide which version should exist.
