The Chase’s Mega Money Spinner adds a possible cash boost before contestants face the Chaser in the final chase. Host Larry Emdur told PerthNow that a team reaching at least 15 steps in that chase could add up to $100,000 to its total—but the contestants still have to beat the Chaser to win.
What changes in the new format?
Before the contestants play the final chase, they spin a large electronic money spinner. Emdur called the feature the Mega Money Spinner. The spin can increase the amount at stake, but it does not replace the final chase or decide the winner on its own.
In an interview published on 22 September 2024, Emdur described the threshold this way: “And if they get 15 steps or more in the final chase, they can add up to $100,000 to their total.” The $100,000 is a possible addition, not a guaranteed prize. The team must reach at least 15 steps and then beat the Chaser to win. PerthNow’s interview with Larry Emdur is the source for the format details.
How the spinner affects the stakes
The spinner can make the potential prize substantially larger than the amount contestants were otherwise playing for. Emdur illustrated the effect with hypothetical amounts: “Somebody who is playing for $30,000 might all of a sudden be playing for $80,000 — The Chasers can be defending 20 or 30,000 and then someone spins up $80,000, so all of a sudden they’re playing for $100,000-plus.” These are examples he gave to explain the stakes, not verified results from particular episodes.

That larger possible total also raises the pressure on the Chaser. Emdur said: “I don’t know if the Chasers are so happy about it, actually, because it adds a bit of extra pressure for them.” The core contest remains the final chase: a bigger amount is only in reach if the contestants clear the step threshold and beat the Chaser.
When was Mega Money Spinner introduced?
PerthNow reported that the new episodes were scheduled to launch on Channel 7 and 7plus on Monday, 23 September 2024. That is the launch schedule reported at the time, not a current broadcast or streaming listing. The interview said the episodes had been recorded over the preceding few weeks and that large jackpots were already occurring, but it did not identify a winner or provide verified episode results.
