For Lady Gaga’s free Copacabana Beach concert on May 3, 2025, Rio’s metro plan kept the three Copacabana stations operating overnight—but “24 hours” did not mean every station allowed boarding all night. Cardeal Arcoverde had a special alighting-only period before the show, and after midnight stations outside Copacabana were also limited to passengers getting off.
What “24 hours” meant for the May 3, 2025 concert
The concert was scheduled for 21:45 local time on Saturday, May 3, and admission was free. Rio City Hall’s event plan said the three Copacabana stations—Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos and Cantagalo—would run 24 hours from Saturday into Sunday. That was an event-specific operation, not a change to the metro’s regular timetable. Rio City Hall’s event notice and MetrôRio’s event page documented the arrangement.

Before and during the show
Earlier in the day, passengers could board across the system under normal boarding rules. Cardeal Arcoverde was an exception from 16:00 to 22:00 on May 3: it was available only for passengers getting off. The restriction was part of the crowd-flow plan around the concert.
After midnight
After midnight, stations outside Copacabana were open only for alighting under the event plan. For the return journey, boarding was designated at Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos and Cantagalo. So the overnight service kept the Copacabana stations in operation, but it did not make every station a place to start a late-night trip.

Which Copacabana station was best for the return?
City Hall recommended Siqueira Campos for return boarding because it had two entrances, 50% more boarding capacity, more validators and an active ticket office. The city also said there would be no ticket sales at Cardeal Arcoverde overnight. Those advantages made Siqueira Campos the plan’s recommended choice for handling return crowds, not necessarily the most convenient station for every concertgoer.

The city’s notice describes the event plan rather than current metro operations. For later events or travel today, check fresh MetrôRio service information and city notices instead of assuming these station rules will recur.
Accessibility arrangements announced for the concert
Rio City Hall described two reserved spaces for people with disabilities in sectors A and B. Access was first-come and subject to capacity; the notice required disability documentation and official photo ID, and allowed each person with a disability to bring one companion. Accessible toilets were planned near the reserved areas. These were arrangements announced for the 2025 event, not confirmation of current venue or station conditions. The city’s accessibility notice identified a sloped platform and escalators at Cardeal Arcoverde and elevators at Siqueira Campos.
Station choice involved different priorities: Siqueira Campos was recommended for its return capacity and ticket facilities, while Cardeal Arcoverde was closest to the reserved sectors and had the access features listed above. The best option therefore depended on a person’s event entrance, mobility needs and destination as well as crowding.

How large was the concert?
The attendance figures differ because they refer to different estimates and sources. Before the event, Rio City Hall estimated 1.6 million people. Afterward, organizers put attendance at 2.1 million, according to the Associated Press report published May 3, 2025. AP also reported that some fans arrived at dawn and spent the day on the beach in strong sun.
City Hall separately said more than 500,000 tourists arrived in Rio between May 1 and 3, based on consolidated figures from the city’s bus terminal and Galeão airport. That was an arrival estimate, not a count of concertgoers. The municipality also projected more than R$600 million in economic impact; this was a projection from a municipal study, not a final audited total. The city’s figures appeared in its May 2, 2025 economic-impact announcement.

Other transport and safety measures were event-specific
City Hall’s English-language plan directed passengers to the Enseada de Botafogo terminal for bus connections and described special overnight arrangements for the metro, VLT and other services. The municipal transport department also reported traffic restrictions around Copacabana and Botafogo and a staffed support service for women experiencing harassment or violence, with care, guidance and referral for medical assistance. The department said 66 staff members were assigned to that service. These measures were reported for the May 2025 concert and should not be treated as current schedules or services.
