Why did the date change?
MTV’s April 24 announcement originally set the ceremony for Tuesday, September 10, at UBS Arena. The August 12 release explicitly announced a new date: September 11. The arena’s event archive independently lists the event on September 11, confirming the revised schedule.
| Announcement | Date and time | What it established |
|---|---|---|
| MTV, April 24, 2024 | Tuesday, September 10, 2024 | Initial date and UBS Arena location |
| MTV, August 12, 2024 | Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/PT | Revised date and broadcast time |
The April release said the planned broadcast footprint covered more than 150 countries and territories and over 319 million households. Those were MTV’s promotional distribution figures at the time, not independently audited audience or viewership measurements. The later update used the wording “150+ countries globally.”
