Lenny Kravitz won Best Rock at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards for “Human” and dedicated the honor to his late mother, actress Roxie Roker. In an MTV preshow interview, he connected the moment to the 1993 VMAs, when Roker accompanied him to the ceremony.
What Lenny Kravitz said about his mother
As reported by Rachel DeSantis for PEOPLE, Kravitz said in an MTV preshow interview: “Wow. This is incredible. I am so grateful. Thirty-one years ago, my mother was with me at an award show, was at the VMAs, so I dedicate this to her.” He continued, “I thank God for this journey, this incredible journey. I thank Jesus for life.”
The dedication recalled the 1993 VMAs, when Roker was by her son’s side. Kravitz described the interval as 31 years in his interview.
Why the 1993 VMAs mattered
