“Bad Apple,” Law & Order Season 24, Episode 8, is strongest as a Jessica Brady character story. Its police-corruption investigation takes the lieutenant back to the 29th Precinct, where her past in Narcotics gives the case a personal dimension. The episode debuted on NBC on November 21, 2024; this is a retrospective review, not a current-airing notice.

What “Bad Apple” is about

The episode sends Lieutenant Jessica Brady back to the 29th Precinct, where she once worked in Narcotics before moving to the 27th to lead Homicide. That return provides the setting for a police-corruption story and brings people from Brady’s past into the investigation.

The distinction matters: the episode’s subject is corruption, but the critic’s account suggests its investigative plot chiefly serves to reveal more about Brady. Rather than treating the case as a sweeping statement about policing, “Bad Apple” uses it to put her former workplace and present responsibilities in the same frame.

Brady’s past gives the episode its strongest material

Brittany Frederick’s CBR review, surfaced on IMDb News and published November 22, 2024, identifies Brady’s character development as the installment’s central strength. The detective-heavy story introduces figures connected to her earlier career, making the return to the 29th more than a change of precinct: it tests how she relates to a past she has since left behind.

That focus is a useful fit for a long-running series. A corruption case can be familiar in outline; Brady’s history gives this one a more specific point of view. Whether that character work fully integrates with the investigation is a matter of judgment, but the available review frames the episode as more compelling for what it adds to Brady than for any broad argument about corruption.

How to read the corruption plot

“Bad Apple” is presented as a detective-driven installment, not as a documentary-style examination of police misconduct. Its corruption premise supplies the conflict, while the return to Brady’s old precinct supplies the personal stakes. That makes the episode’s center of gravity its lead character, rather than an expansive exploration of the issue itself.

The critical case for the episode, then, rests on the connection between those two strands: Brady’s Narcotics history should make the investigation feel consequential to her, not simply place familiar faces around a new case. Frederick’s review sees the character dimension as the payoff. The available account does not establish wider critical consensus or audience response, so that assessment should be read as one critic’s view.
