Le Vietnam owner DJ Lee says Somebody Feed Phil host Phil Rosenthal visited his Perth restaurant in 2023, returned to the counter after trying the food and invited Lee and his wife, Emily, to his show that night. A possible television reunion was only a prospect in PerthNow’s 6 February 2025 report: Lee said a producer had contacted him about scouting locations for a potential Australian season, but neither a season nor Lee’s appearance was confirmed.
Who was Le Vietnam’s famous customer?
Lee identified Phil Rosenthal, the host of Somebody Feed Phil, as a memorable customer at Le Vietnam. According to Lee’s account in PerthNow’s 6 February 2025 report, Rosenthal was in Perth for a live show in 2023 when he visited the restaurant.
Lee recalled that Rosenthal came back to the counter after trying the food and invited him and Emily to the show that evening. Lee remembered Rosenthal saying, “No, I would love to invite you and your wife to my show tonight.” That is Lee’s recollection as reported by PerthNow, not a separately verified transcript.
Was DJ Lee confirmed for Somebody Feed Phil?
No. The reported visit and invitation had already happened, but the television connection remained tentative. Lee told PerthNow that a producer had reached out about Rosenthal scouting locations for a possible Australian season. As Lee put it: “A producer reached out to me and said that Phil is in town, he’s going to do some scouting around on places to film because he wants to do an Australian season.”

Lee said he hoped the contact might lead to an appearance and would wait for a call. PerthNow’s account does not announce a commissioned Australian season, confirm that filming took place at Le Vietnam, or say Lee was cast. The story’s TV angle is a possibility described in February 2025, not confirmation of a later production.
What is Le Vietnam, and how did the ‘Bánh Mì King’ get started?
Le Vietnam is a Perth bánh mì restaurant run by DJ Lee and his wife, Emily. An SBS Food profile published in 2021 and updated later that year describes Lee’s path from touring as a DJ to seeking out bánh mì while travelling, then opening the restaurant after returning to Perth.

The profile also describes Lee’s varied approach to bánh mì, including flavour combinations beyond traditional options and vegan sandwiches. That background helps explain why the shop has become a local talking point; it does not establish any connection between its menu and a television production.

PerthNow’s 2025 report also recounts Lee’s celebrity food anecdotes: a bespoke peri-peri chicken bánh mì for Ed Sheeran and an El Veganito associated with Lizzo. A separate PerthNow report from July 2023 clarifies that Lizzo’s production manager collected two sandwiches, including an El Veganito for the singer. It does not report that Lizzo herself visited the shop.
