What happened to Kianna Underwood?
Underwood, 33, died after a crash on January 16, 2026, in Brownsville, Brooklyn. The Associated Press, citing law enforcement and an NYPD statement, reported that a black Ford Explorer struck her, and that a black-and-gray sedan hit her afterward while she was lying in the street. In its September account, CBS New York reported police said the Ford SUV was traveling west on Pitkin Avenue. Police said it crossed the double yellow line to pass a vehicle beginning a right turn onto Mother Gaston Boulevard, then struck Underwood in a crosswalk. They also said she was crossing against the pedestrian signal. That is the police account, not a judicial finding. CBS reported that the second vehicle struck her while she was in the road. Who was arrested, and what are the charges?
CBS New York reported that police arrested Michael Griffiths, 72, on September 29, 2026, in connection with the crash. The reported charges are leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. A charge is an accusation; the reporting does not establish guilt or a court disposition. CBS New York

Was the driver of the second car arrested?
The reports cited here identify two vehicles but do not confirm that a driver of the second vehicle was arrested. Griffiths’s arrest does not, by itself, resolve every aspect of the investigation.
How the investigation changed between January and September
On January 19, CBS New York reported that police had seized a Ford SUV seen on surveillance footage but had not arrested its owner. Investigators said at that point that evidence did not establish the owner was driving. The later September report identified Griffiths as arrested in connection with the case. Who was Kianna Underwood?
Underwood was an actor and voice performer. The Associated Press reported that she appeared in seven episodes of Nickelodeon’s All That in 2005, voiced Fuschia Glover on Nick Jr.’s Little Bill from 1999 to 2004, and played Little Inez on the first national tour of Hairspray. The Associated Press
