What did the parties say in the settlement announcement?
The June 22 joint statements were distinct from Kesha’s later thank-you post. In her settlement statement, Kesha wrote, “Only God knows what happened that night,” said she could not recount everything that occurred, and said she looked forward to closing the chapter and beginning a new one. She wished peace to all parties.
Dr. Luke denied the allegations, saying, “I never drugged or assaulted her and would never do that to anyone.” He also said he wished Kesha well. These were statements by the parties, not a court’s findings about the disputed allegations.

What was the lawsuit about?
A New York Court of Appeals public-information summary says Kesha signed an exclusive recording agreement with Gottwald’s production company in 2005, when she was 18. In 2014, she filed a California lawsuit alleging sexual abuse; Gottwald filed a New York defamation action the same day, alleging her statements were false. The court summary says it is background based on briefs filed with the court, not a determination of the truth of the disputed allegations.
In June 2023, the New York Court of Appeals addressed public-figure and anti-SLAPP issues before trial. Its June 2023 opinion is part of the procedural history; rulings along the litigation path addressed legal questions, not a trial verdict on the underlying allegations. The settlement ended the litigation, but the public statements and reporting did not disclose its private terms or establish a judicial resolution of those claims.

What is known about the settlement terms?
The contemporaneous reports reviewed did not disclose the settlement’s terms. They do not establish whether it involved a payment, an admission, a confidentiality condition, or another private arrangement, so none of those details can be stated as fact.
