What did the family say about his illness?
Blackstock’s family announced his death on August 7, 2025, in a statement published by the Associated Press. A family representative said he had “bravely battled cancer for more than three years.” The announcement did not initially identify the type of cancer; the coroner’s confirmation later identified melanoma.
Who was Brandon Blackstock?
Blackstock was a talent manager and father of four. He was 48 when he died, the AP reported. Two of his children were with singer Kelly Clarkson.

Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013, separated in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022, according to the Los Angeles Times. Clarkson postponed her Las Vegas shows after saying the children’s father had been ill and that she needed to be present for their children. In a statement quoted by the AP, she said: “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
What is melanoma?
Melanoma begins in melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says melanoma can spread to other parts of the body, including vital organs. Public reporting does not establish Blackstock’s melanoma stage, primary site, treatment history or detailed clinical course, and his family requested privacy.
