When did Jessica Mauboy marry Themeli Magripilis?
The couple married in July 2022. A PerthNow report published on 10 July said the wedding had taken place the previous day, Saturday, 9 July. Where was the wedding?
PerthNow reported that Mauboy and Magripilis held a small ceremony at a Darwin church, then celebrated with an evening reception on the lawn at Mindil Beach Casino Resort. The report put attendance at around 300 guests; that is a contemporaneous media estimate, not an official count. (PerthNow, 10 July 2022)
How Mauboy described the celebration
In a 2024 interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly, Mauboy called the wedding “a very cultural celebration … a cultural infusion.” She described it as bringing together Magripilis’s Greek background with her Aboriginal and Indonesian family backgrounds.

She recalled Greek music and dancing, her father’s traditional Indonesian dancing, and relatives singing hymns. How long had they been together?
Mauboy said she and Magripilis met in Darwin when they were both 18 and had been together since then. They announced their engagement in 2019. In the engagement post quoted by PerthNow, Mauboy said Magripilis proposed on a beach at sunset in Kalymnos, Greece, his family’s hometown: “The love of my life proposed to me in his family’s home town of Kalymnos, Greece, on the beach at sunset.” (PerthNow, 2019; The Australian Women’s Weekly, 2024; WHO, 2024)

What Mauboy expected before the wedding
In an April 2022 Sunrise interview, Mauboy said she had no set date yet and was trying to coordinate family travel. She expected a large Darwin family gathering, saying, “I’m sure it will be a Darwin big family fest, because all my mob is up that way.” She also anticipated a sunset-and-beach feel. Those were her plans and expectations at the time, rather than a description of the ceremony that was later reported. (7NEWS, 20 April 2022)
