Guinness World Records estimated Keith Richards’s fortune at $289 million (about £187 million at the time) in 2010. That is a historical estimate—not a current net-worth disclosure—and the credible sources cited here do not establish his present-day personal wealth.
What does the $289 million estimate mean?
Guinness World Records published the $289 million figure in 2010. It is the strongest individually attributable estimate located here, but it is more than a decade old and is not an audited accounting of Richards’s assets and debts. No recent, independently documented personal balance sheet establishes his current net worth, so the 2010 estimate should not be silently updated or treated as a present-day valuation. How the Rolling Stones generated revenue
The Rolling Stones’ commercial activity helps explain how Richards could have built substantial wealth, but band revenue is not the same as his personal fortune. In September 2002, Fortune reported that the group had generated more than $1.5 billion in gross revenue since 1989. That band-level total covered records, song rights, merchandise, sponsorship, and touring; it does not show Richards’s share or what remained after expenses, taxes, and other obligations. Fortune (2002)
Touring, records, and other business
A 1989 Forbes report on the band’s Steel Wheels-era business described a $70 million guarantee for tour promotion rights, potential ticket receipts, merchandise, sponsorship, and record and catalog arrangements. It also discussed songwriter royalties. These are historical examples of the Stones’ revenue channels—not a statement of Richards’s net proceeds or ownership share. Forbes (1989)

Richards captured the link between songwriting and commercial success in that report: “All this vast amount of money is generated by sitting down with this little wooden instrument.” The remark offers perspective on the band’s business, not a personal accounting of the money he received.
What is known about songwriting and catalog rights?
Songwriting and publishing are relevant to the band’s business, but the sources cited here do not establish Richards’s current ownership percentage in publishing or master recordings, or the current value of any rights he holds. In a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, Richards said that he and Mick Jagger had not discussed a catalog sale seriously and that he did not know whether they were ready to sell. Those comments describe the discussion at that time; they do not establish current plans or a rights valuation. Rolling Stone (2022)

Did Richards earn money outside the Rolling Stones?
Richards has also released solo music and worked with the X-Pensive Winos. A 2020 Rolling Stone interview discussed his solo records and reissues, but did not report a personal earnings figure. His memoir, Life, is an autobiography listed by its publisher; it provides biographical context, not evidence of his current net worth or book earnings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a current personal figure cannot be calculated from these numbers
Gross band revenue, tour guarantees, and catalog activity do not reveal how much one member retained. A current net-worth calculation would also require reliable information about personal assets, liabilities, taxes, investments, and income splits. The sources cited here do not provide a Richards-specific current breakdown of those figures, so combining the historical estimates and band-business totals would create false precision.
