What changed in Deeper into the Well
On July 26, 2024, MCA Nashville announced Deeper into the Well, released August 2 as an expanded edition. It retains the original 14-track album and adds seven songs, bringing the expanded sequence to 21 tracks in total:
#1 Best Overall
- The music on Deeper Well, the seven-time Grammy winner's fifth album, is almost chimeric
- “Ruthless”
- “Little Sister”
- “Flower Child”
- “Superbloom” featuring Leon Bridges
- “Perfection” featuring Tiny Habits
- “Arm’s Length”
- “Irish Goodbye”
The seven additions are listed in the label’s expanded-edition announcement. They are not part of the original 14-song track list above.
Release and recording context
The album was primarily recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, according to the label’s March 15 release announcement; that wording does not mean every track was recorded there. The February announcement says Musgraves was inspired by New York City’s Greenwich Village and made a good portion of the record at the studio. “I was seeking some different environmental energy, and Electric Lady has the best mojo. Great ghosts,” she said in the label announcement.
Rank #2
- Green liquid-filled vinyl LP
- Liquid Filled Vinyl with Olive
- Vinyl Record
The label says most of the 14 tracks were written by Musgraves with Fitchuk and Tashian. Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne reunited with Musgraves for “The Architect.” In a February 2024 explainer, GRAMMY.com quoted Musgraves calling the album “a collection of songs I hold very dear to my heart. I hope it makes a home in all of your hearts, too.” The outlet also described her account of a softer direction drawing on Americana, folk, country and warmth.
For independent critical context, the Associated Press characterized the album as a “muted folk record with a warm kind of profundity,” highlighting its acoustic, folk-informed approach in “Cardinal,” “Nothing to be Scared Of” and “The Architect.” That is the AP’s review description, not an official genre designation.

Musgraves’ official store lists physical editions of the original album. Product details below apply to those specific listings, not necessarily every edition or retailer:
