Ripa and her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, began the October 2, 2024 episode by acknowledging her birthday. She then paid tribute to Siegel-Herzog, whose death had left her grieving. Entertainment Weekly reported that Ripa said, “I was crushed yesterday, I was really, really crushed. I didn’t want to come to work today.”
Reflecting on Siegel-Herzog’s effect on her family, Ripa said: “Every now and again, there’s a person that enters your life that changes it for the better in ways that seem momentous at the time, but then you flash-forward 10 years, and you go, my gosh, the way this woman has impacted and changed the course of our lives, our family’s lives, can’t be overstated.” Entertainment Weekly’s report, syndicated by AOL, reproduced her remarks from the broadcast.
Who was Yvette Siegel-Herzog?
Siegel-Herzog was an educator who co-founded Stephen Gaynor School with Dr. Miriam Michael in 1962. In its October 1, 2024 announcement, the school said Siegel-Herzog died at home surrounded by family, aged 100.

The school’s account says the founders believed bright students who learn differently deserved nurturing, individualized education. Head of School Dr. Scott Gaynor called Siegel-Herzog “an unwavering source of inspiration for all of us at Gaynor, consistently reminding us to place the child at the heart of everything we do.” The school published its announcement at Stephen Gaynor School.
What Ripa said about her son’s experience
According to Entertainment Weekly’s account of the tribute, Ripa recalled approaching Siegel-Herzog while distressed about Joaquin’s education. Ripa said Joaquin attended Stephen Gaynor School through eighth grade and described Siegel-Herzog as an enlightening and empowering presence who helped change the course of his life. She also said he continued to earn A grades in college.
