The couple said the experience brought them closer, and Thurston recalled that Arcuri wanted to show her he was committed to staying by her side.
Why they moved the wedding forward
In a March 20, 2025 interview, Arcuri told Good Morning America that the diagnosis had bonded them rather than driven them apart. “You would think it would cause more tribulation or problems between you, but it’s bonded us more than anything else, which is why we’re moving up the wedding a little bit,” he said, as reported from his interview with Us Weekly. Arcuri added that they were getting married in two days.
Thurston recalled a conversation in which Arcuri told her: “And one night he said, ‘I want to show you that I still love you and that I’m here to stay. I’ll get married to you tomorrow,’” she said. The couple flew in their parents, and a friend officiated the private ceremony at home.
How their relationship led to the marriage
In an October 2026 retrospective on the Not Married to This podcast, Thurston said she and Arcuri first connected in April 2024 and went on their first date in May. Arcuri proposed in Kauai in August 2024, according to Us Weekly’s October 2026 account. The same report says they eloped in their New York living room.

What reports said about Thurston’s diagnosis
Thurston publicly shared her breast cancer diagnosis in February 2025. March 2025 coverage described it as Stage 3 triple-positive ductal carcinoma. Later reporting described the cancer as Stage 4, and an October 2026 podcast listing referred to the diagnosis as later confirmed Stage 4. These are descriptions attached to reports at different dates, not a current medical update.
In October 2025, Thurston told Good Morning America that the medicine was still working and discussed a six-month scan. That account is a dated update; it does not establish her health status now.

Later comments and fundraising
In July 2026, Arcuri discussed addressing the experience in his Netflix special with Fox News Digital. “I think you can make anything funny. You can make awkwardness funny if you’re just honest. People respond to the honesty,” he said. Asked whether he was comfortable discussing his wife’s diagnosis in the special, he replied, “Yeah. I put it on Netflix.”
Good Morning America reported in October 2025 that Thurston estimated about $80,000 would be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through a contribution of $1 per tour ticket and a matching donation from Arcuri. That was her estimate of the planned total, not confirmation of the final amount.

What the couple’s account does—and does not—show
Their explanation is personal: they said the diagnosis brought them closer, and Arcuri wanted to demonstrate his commitment by marrying sooner. It should not be taken as a general prescription for how couples should respond to illness. In her 2025 Good Morning America interview, Thurston also urged people to be proactive about their health: “I think that’s the biggest takeaway, is telling people like, ‘Don’t wait,’ you know, ‘Be proactive, get checked out,’” she said.
